Having just got Florence back on August 27th and had a couple of trips I now have a new problem.

Tricia and I travelled up to Manchester yesterday (Thursday 8th Sept) to stay with my daughter Lucy on our way to the Lakes on Saturday. Sadly the windscreen wipers packed up on the motorway five miles from Lucy’s. Fortunately the rain was quite light and we were able to get safely to our destination. The motor is still working when I tried the switch - you can here it running but the wipers don’t move. I can move the blades manually and they are all still connected to each other. I tried turning them on again they moved a little but then stopped.

So it seems the motor is still working and the wipers are moving but the two appear not to be connected properly any more. I would add that this is only my guess as I wouldn't profess to know how all these things work.

The motor is behind the glove box (and occupies most of it) and seems pretty inaccessible. It would seem that what little access there is would be from underneath the dash but it looks like the dash needs to come out to get at it properly.

Has anybody else had this problem and if so are you able to offer an advice/help?

I have now spoken with Krazy Horse and they have had this problem once on another car. It is a dash out job with about three and half hours labour but is obviously in warranty. They can do the work next week but in the meantime I will have to put Rain-X on and dodge the showers.

If this is still a conventional classic system, a spiral bound wire runs inside an aluminium tube. Under each wiper a wiper gearbox is clamped by two fasteners over the tube, which has flared ends. Inside the gearbox is a toothed gear which engages with the spiral bound wire. The wire moves inside the tube, and is driven by a crank wheel attached to the motor, usually using a pin into a hole on the end of the spiral bound wire. If the wipers can be moved in synch, and the motor works independently then the crank wheel is not connected to the wire, or not connected to the motor.

Thankfully this system is usually reliable and on the Trads is on the bulkhead. This assumes that Morgan have not used a more modern alternative!

Not surprised that it’s a dash out. When I last did a Factory tour I was struck by the CX cars I saw in build. There was an incredible amount of kit fitted into a small space compared to my 4/4 Trad’. Any repair work looked like quite an undertaking.
