With my fingers firmly crossed .... what with the winch and high-lift jack I've never got into anything I couldn't get back out of 🙂.
Landys are one of those things that some people just love unconditionally (errmm me!) and others can't see why 🙂
All I know is that it's got me home through thick and thin for 15 years and that's won it a place in my heart ... warts and all! 🙂
Though I appreciate that others feel the same about Land-cruisers, Jeeps, Shoguns and Hi-Aces ...... (of course they're wrong ... but I appreciate that's how they feel 🤣)

I'm sure you'll be fine - I hated the Land Cruiser with a vengeance and it's regular trick was gross imbalance in it's wheels as the centres moved after about 200 miles of dirt roads and as that's all there was it was a complete pain. Heather loved driving it so I look her with me whenever I had to take it anywhere. I couldn't deny it's other talents though being honest. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/09/10/Dartmog-051.jpg)

I'm with Keith! My bro-on-law on a self drive safari in Namibia a number of years ago (in a Land Cruiser) was camped out one evening when several Oz registered LRs pulled into camp. Each one had a "Toyota Recovery Team" sticker proudly displayed Apparently the guys were a hoot Wish he'd taken a photo now.

Sometimes it's not about the equipment you have but in the skill of implementation We all got 4x4 and driver survival courses and a bit of emergency first aid before they let us overseas which was just as well

Sometimes it's not about the equipment you have but in the skill of implementation Very true, but it's especially useful for me to have an extra bit of help now and again for my somewhat limited off-road skills. There are times when putting the thing in low ratio and using the anti-stall and traction control to let the thing find its own way comes in bloody handy, it's a lot easier than juggling clutch and diff locks I'm sure the old-school drivers would snort derisively, but there are times when I don't mind depending on a bit of technology at all!

The family has used my 1971 Series 11a since I bought it back in 1999. It has broken down only twice in that time- despite being used as everything from builders van to recovery vehicle and tractor. It is also unconditionally loved by all the grandchildren. My wife’s Puma -110 has been in the family for only 7 years. Only fault has been the windscreen wiper stop failed and a blocked fuel tank breather. Never let us down. My Freelander fell apart - it might have been down to a failed stump- pulling that the 11a finished!! I looked at buying a new Defender- but somehow couldn’t see myself using the £90k beast in the same way as we use the existing Landys. I have a strong feeling that the existing ( and hopefully future) crop of grandchildren will be big Landy fans like their parents and grandparents! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/09/11/C821B2B1-31AD-44CC-B45D-443C6EC50246.jpg)

Pretty classy all round I'd say .... could be a period Vogue cover-shoot. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/09/11/EyjliYJWUAghAeM.jpg) She would be regularly spotted driving her Landy round the local roads in Deeside. K

Each one had a "Toyota Recovery Team" sticker proudly displayed Apparently the guys were a hoot Wish he'd taken a photo now. Years ago I had a little Suzuki Jeep. One day I joined an All wheel Drive club spot of greenlaning, there were 6 LR they scornfully looked at me and said "you better stay at the back and we will pull you out when you get stuck". A couple of miles later on a muddy track through a forest they came to a stop, I walked up to the front to see LR No1 stuck in a bog hole so I got in the little jeep drove up through the trees got in front threw him a rope and pulled him and the other 5 through the bog. Thereafter known as the Land Rover rescue truck.
