Afternoon all,

I noticed that the filler cap of my 2022 Plus Four was not always easy to open, almost from new. However, yesterday I stopped to fill up and it took me almost five minutes of fiddling to get the filler cap off.

What I noticed was that the lift and rotate tab when turned anti-clockwise should rotate the filler cap should. Mine is not rotating. Inspecting the filler at home, I see it is adjustable but will not touch it as it is under warranty.

Anyone else had this problem? If so, was it overcome by adjustment or replacement?

Thanks,

Andy

PS - tried to attach a photograph (302kB) but forum says 'too big'!!

Try some silicone grease Andy. Made a big difference to mine. Repeat when it stiffens up again.

I have the same problem , but they forgot to look at it when the car was at the garage for the brakes . They told me to add grease as above.

Thank you for both replies. A stupid question, but grease where? The outer plate should rotate with the tab and it doesn’t.

Please would you advise what should be greased. I have also considered converting to a Monza style filler cap but not sure how straight forward this is. Last thing I want is to be miles from anywhere needing fuel and find that I can’t open the filler cap!

Thanks in advance,

Andy

The Monza cap used on the Le Mans CX cars is purely cosmetic the original cap is underneath.

I think the moving part under the cap has to be greased

Same problem for me when coming back from the Revival at the weekend. 5 minutes of fiddling around in the service station to get the cap off being careful not to bend or break the lift up lever which feels pretty flimsy. Real feeling of relief to be able to refuel!

I'll try and have a look one evening this week to see what/where can be greased.

At last on the CX though, I am not greasing suspension so I have got spare time to spread grease on the fuel cap :-).

I agree, Almond. It is the flimsy nature of the pressed metal tab that worried me. I had visions of having to call out the breakdown services!

Your strap line chimes with me. I too have ridden motorcycles all my life (still do, TBH). It was driving a Morgan that I at last found a car with that delivered the same thrill as riding a motorcycle. I can add that I tried several performance cars on a track before making my decision. The German and Italian brands left me cold. Bet their filler caps work though!
