Havn’t seen it commented & I am sure things are improving, but cost in replacements of the inverter/inverters. My “sunny boy” (SMA) had to be changed after only 5 years. Most manufacturers have a standard 5 year warranty that can be extended to 10/15/20 years but the extension costs are normally equivalent to a new inverter.... The old SMA's did seem to fail at about 5-7 years, although some still going strong now 10/11 years later - its complete luck of the draw regarding longevity. You can now purchase inverters for half the price of what they were 5 years ago.

How do you support this statement? I'd be interested in an example to feed back to my naysayer expert.

That I as an installer have to jump thru hoops to get a connection agreement with a DNO - if there was nothing going back to the grid then they (DNO) wouldn't bother getting me to complete pages of technical paperwork to make an application. I have to make an application for anything over 10.54 kWp on a three phase system which is a baby size system. Why would they impose export to grid limitations on my commercial installations if there was no export in first place? Don't get confused with export to the HV (main transmission lines) and LV (all the substations and associated cabling to housing and industrial estates). I would agree that a negligible amount of generated PV will get to HV as it will all be consumed by the LV network.

Thanks. I'll ask him. However, he did say something about three phase as I mentioned originally. But surely no domestic user has three phasebattached to solar?
Anyway I'll get back as soon as I've summoned up enough inner energy to ask him!
How do you feel about the thing that the nat grid have removed solar from their webpage explanation?

Solar is DC it is inverted to single phase AC hence why it doesn't go back into the HV grid & is consumed locally.

I think there might be a bit of difference of perspective here. The supply industry (or at least, the supplier I worked for) considers the term 'National Grid' to include the Transmission and Distribution networks, but from the perspective of the National Grid company it only embraces the Transmission Network as that's the bit they are responsible for.

I think I have my FIT, PV, SEG, BG, LV, LG, DNO, HV and heaven forbid my SMOs mixed up, or maybe I'm just inverted.
