A friend had a '48, I think. He found the frame in a barn and searched out all the other parts. Beautiful bike. I took it for a ride once and was little intimidated but smiling!

They could have given it a clean. I suspect you're jesting! Barn finds are always presented as found, cleaning them up can knock several grand off the value (there have been a couple of examples of this happening on Bangers & Cash).
