I noticed on Sunday that the fuel gauge on my plus 8 is very unstable when driving moving from half full to nearly full at times ,is this normal ? Or do I have a fault ?

Ha, try trusting a full quarter tank left at 0430 on the French motorways! Even persisted on registering the same when trying to restart. Use your tripmeter, and look for fuel at 225 to 250 miles. At a squeeze, you may get 298 miles until the tanks sucked dry- that's how far I got anyway rofl

Peter, as you have the Aero chassis and it's a recent purchase I'd get it back to the supplying dealer pdq as the electronics on these cars is far from conventional.

Good luck with getting it fixed, they are special cars.

Mine is all over the place. Currently at Morgan to be looked at and they say it already had the modification to improve it frown but they took it all apart and put it back together again and we live in hope it is better and that also the mod to enable me to fill without the pump constantly clicking works.

Peter see below for the complexity of fuel level system on a 3.7 Roadster.

[Linked Image]

It's likely whilst different yours will have some commonality with above. Particularly note the two ground connections at the bottom serving the fuel level unit. They likely carry very small currents so would be susceptible to any connection resistance. They are not shared because the tiny current in one could affect the other. If you can find similar on yours re-make those connections or indeed any associated ground connections you find.

Break and re-make any connector you find in the area as well.

I raised this with morgan as a fault when buying my Plus 8 backing in 2012.
Typical response: they all do that sir & and its really complex to resolve. So it was the only fault they didn't fix.

The Coupe arrived with the same fault and they were able to mostly fix it. It did still swing a bit but nothing like the old half a tank swing it started with. It is true they mostly did that but that does not make it right.

The S2 never had it but then it did have two owners before me so one of them may have complained loudly enough

Mine only reads half full with fuel pouring out on my feet.

I clearly need to master the art of

(a) Filling it up

(b) Understanding how fuel much might be in there when the pump first clicks

(c) Guessing how far I can drive on what I assume is in the tank.

I don't think I have ever had a car which poses so many intellectual challenges since I owned a Daf Variomatic which I bought from a second hand shop for £35

Both my fuel gauges read full (from full) for a very long time. Then fall rapidly. I've had the low fuel light on my Plus 4 a couple of times. Once I had to drive over 40 miles to find fuel. The second time I filled up just after the light came on and could only get 40 litres in the tank. I rarely go below an indicated quarter tank, and the reading varies a lot between uphill and downhill, and cornering hard.

You are not alone! I will report further when I get my car back from Works having both these issues addressed as best they can.
