Hello all,

My ‘66 Plus 4 has two little side lamps on each wing right in front of the mirrors. They are Lucas L516s.

Has anyone rebuilt theirs? There is a little rubber gasket between the lens and the front chrome ring. I am fairly sure it’s Lucas part #573619.

I’m have trouble sourcing an equivalent. I tried some o-rings, 28 mm OD, 24 mm ID, 2 mm wide. They don’t work. Too thick to fit the bulb mount in, which locks the whole thing together. I think it should be a bit wider, and a bit flatter. What have people used?

Probaby easiest to either make one or buy complete new lamp for spares as here.

I used O rings, from either a box of metric sized or imperial sized. The O rings are differing thickness, therefor trial and error required. Hope this helps.

I used black silicone sealant applied with a syringe

Thanks Arwyn, I was thinking of that. Do you squeeze it in and then let it set up inside the ring before putting back together?

I used some viton O rings. Measured up the old ones, and got new from eBay. Unfortunately it was a few years ago so can't find the size on my purchase history.

A tip when using sealant to form a gasket learnt from my yotty years. Apply generously then clamp item down gently wiping off excess. Wait at least 24 hours to go off then tighten fully. This saves all the sealant being squeezed out at first application.

Silicone is not the best fiend in paint shops...

You could make your own. I bought some round section O-ring material for a job a while back. Cut to length for the circumference you need and superglue to connect the ends. I have a box of O-rings but none fitted so bought the right diameter( thickness). If I remember correctly it was sold by the metre and not expensive. I’ll see if I can find details. A google search is another option.

If you use an O ring that's too small & stretch it over the item you effectively reduce the diameter of the rubber, which can be useful...well until it goes ping
