Some years ago I had an '84 Alfa Spider, I changed the gearbox oil for Castrol and it wouldn't change gear at all. With advice from the Alfa forum I changed to Redline and the changes were like silk.

I have three bottles of Redline MTL winging their way to me. Will advise after change.

Just had a word with Cain. He recommends Shifteze or Activ8 additives. Has anyone had experience of using them?

Changed gearbox oil to Redline MTL over the weekend, measuring and replacing the 2.7 litres which is a little below filler cap.
Took Morton on shopping trip today. Not a huge difference but noticed a more fluid gear selection particularly second and when cold.

Having had a 110 mile run today, the first long one since changing to MTL, I can honestly say with the gearbox well warmed up the improvement in gear selection is more noticeable. Suffice to say I was scratching my head for a few seconds as to why it was so smooth until I remembered the oil change nearly a month ago. If I could shorten the gait now it would be icing on the cake.

It will be interesting to see how yours performs after a while. I thought MTL was wonderful at first; but after a few months and doing 200+ miles a day on a road trip the shift stiffened up again. I have only done short journeys since then and it is performing again. It obviously does not like getting too hot.

That may well turn out to be true but the facts so far are that there are small but noticeable improvements both hot and cold on this particular gearbox, known for selection issues.
Given the grade is thinner than factory spec'd but not as thin as Ford's current recommendation and it still performs better when hot, I'm quite encouraged.
