I also had the kingpins renewed in the spring, also replaced with hard chrome-plated ones for the first time. The feeling of the new kingpins is very impressive. When things wear out very slowly, you always have a permanent habituation effect until the breaking point appears. For me, it is similar to the slow wear of a record player pick-up, for example, or the wear of amplifier tubes. And also, although it happens at shorter intervals, the point at which a dirty window pane suddenly catches the eye and has to be cleaned.

Oh yes. In this great weather to the Victoria at Earl Soham a great old victorian pub. Sat in the beer garden as it was warm enough.
Drove home via Framlingham, Snape & Woodbridge on the twisties

At the weekend I thought I would take the Plus 4 for its first long run since I got it in May. I know, I know, I know, all summer and only short trips, but still more mileage than the previous owners 4 years put together.

We decided to take it to north Norfolk and more, for a proper shakedown and put some 300 miles on it. Must say am very impressed with it, the ride is far less harsh than I ever expected, excellent consumption, and driving through the heaviest downpour I have seen for many a month, we only had 1 tiny dribble!

However as part of the shakedown I decided to try a bit of hardish breaking on a long clear road while still damp and managed to lock the rear wheels (nearside more than offside). All very controlled but welcome to a world without ABS. I also noticed that the inside of the exhaust, whilst not sooty, was not as grey as I was expecting. It's a 2007 Duratec.

Looking forward to its next run come rain or shine

Great lunch with the banter flowing thumbs

Long way back for me via Bury as had to pic up some pills for the dog. Roads slightly damp in that direction but virtually no rain on car all day smile

152 mile round trip to Cranfield to see the fine fellows at Allon-White for service, MOT and kingpins.

Spent the day at Shuttleworth - a grand day out.
