We're in strange times, folk are reluctant to buy big ticket items. I know a couple of people in 'high end' retail who have said the market has just disappeared! I'm sure it's different all over the country and certain people are probably more insulated from the current situation than others. There has often been talk on here about how safe a place a Morgan is to put your money, depreciation proof, can't lose money..... If anyone keeps an eye on the stock that dealers are showing (I bet most people do!!), cars certainly seem to be sitting around for a long time. I've heard of dealers not taking any more stock in as they're 'full'...! I spoke to a dealer who had given SOR cars back to the owners because they wouldn't sell. Strange times. But.... The Plus Four at BHM is an amazing car.......!!!!😆

I suspect sales of discretionary motor vehicles will be a tough gig for a while yet as vendors still look for "yesterdays" price

You also need to consider the upward pressure on new price from inflation which also impacts second hand values too. My understanding is the MY23 cars will be noticeably more, maybe not on base price but once you factor in increased prices for the extras. Will also be interesting to see if the consequences of accommodating air bags on the MY23 cars (as seems likely) mean some people will prefer a MY22 car if it means more options for the dash and steering wheel. It’s inevitable that residuals will soften to some degree with the recessionary climate, but for how long and by how much is a complex guess. Let’s hope it’s not too much and previous assumptions largely endure.

It will be interesting as with the advancements/improvements made with each new model year there will of course form a ranking in desirability and therefore demand by model year in the used market. For example I would take a MY22 over a MY21 just because of the standard comfort seats, new hood design etc. You also note that the dealers are also drawing attention to the model year where there are definite improvements as a result. Secondly older CX's are now coming closer to the end of their manufacturers warranty and some may have residual concerns re brakes and radiators as to is it all fixed and what's next eg ride height and sagging springs.
I must admit I was quite attracted to that blue CX the black wheels put me off but they can be painted and not an auto and no air con with a black interior makes sunny days potentially a little warm and sweaty. But a very attractive price.

23 cars will have traction control, a curved under dash to allow a lockable glove box & different door cards, speakers & mixed leather fabric seats as a base model I believe.

Judging by the cost to change offered to me by Malvern be prepared for a shock to the system if you are considering trading in your current pride and joy - no such thing as a free lunch . But interesting times nonetheless - looking on the car locator: For another £500 (ie £60k) you can have a works edition classic with 4500 miles or a late 110 edition plus 4 with 3500 miles!

Big stocks of new/used Morgans has been a feature ever since I took my first look. Although stock levels seem huge, compared to most manufacturers, the numbers are tiny. I accept though that buyers are also few in number.
It comes back to what I always say. Make a Morgan special or different and it will find a buyer. Go Conservative on spec and its one of many.

I have never understood that concept Dave? Not meant in a rude manner.
If I am new to the brand and am buying a pre-loved one then I look at the market and see.
1. More traditional schemes (safe?) and matching the historic style of the car/brand. Later maybe lucky enough to upgrade to a new bespoke order. 2. Something someone bought new, spec'd to their own personal taste (special/different) and unless I happen to have similar taste it would put me off?
I saw Shooters Aero S4 which had some strong matt grey and Yellow in it at RTCC and I get what he had done but I could not drive that combo, a reflection on me and not Shooter who has way more confidence and style than me clearly. I saw the ex Paul O'Grady AeroMax and the interior colour was stunning in the flesh but pictures never seemed to do it justice. If I ever spec'd a new car I would have that as the interior colour for certain. A beautiful purple/blue mix I don't have the right name for.
How am I missing your comment re "one of many" being bad like this ?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

23 cars will have traction control, a curved under dash to allow a lockable glove box & different door cards, speakers & mixed leather fabric seats as a base model I believe. Traction control will be an interesting advancement or for some a backward step....for me especially at this time of year with leaf matter on the roads etc traction control sounds attractive, if you enjoy pushing the performance envelope on roads. A lot will depend on at what point /how intervening the traction control becomes. As the basic car is pretty well balanced without it, hopefully it will be just in the background for the Plus Four and maybe a life saver for the Plus 6, as I find with age my driving instincts and reactions are not what they used to be and a little more help is needed from time to time when my driving starts to exceed my diminishing ability. I'm always a little sceptical about colour schemes that push the envelope on standards/norms for a given car, the more you move away from acceptable norms within a given market place, the smaller/narrower the potential customer base and then load in high prices and the used market can really become very thin of potential buyers. But as they say each to their own.

I can't agree with the thought that going 'special or different' makes it easy to sell a Morgan, or anything else for that matter. Morgan owners always seemed to me to be the most conservative group of people in the world on the whole. There are obviously some some exceptions and some exceptional people, and perhaps Morgan people are a bit 'different'.... BRG or Old English white with black or tan leather have always been the standard colour scheme, because they sell. I've seen purple with mint green leather, and whilst it may have always been the original buyers dream combo, as a used car it becomes 'trickier' to sell.
They say every day is a school day........ I never knew that Paul O'grady had owned an Aeromax.........🙃
