I'm curious to know if anyone out there has converted a mid sixties four seater plus 4 to a two seater. Other than the obvious body/wood work, a reconfigured top/bows what are/were the unexpected issues?

Thanks, Pat

Seems like a lot of work & cost when 4 seaters are rare & sought after

Well, good point but four seaters are not rare nor are they sought after where I live, in fact two seaters fetch a lot more money, and are much easier to sell in my neck of the woods. I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but the thought has crossed my mind as I much prefer the two person body style, but as I said I'm curious to know if anyone has done it. The work is not the issue, I enjoy restoring my cars more than driving them. Pat

Pat ... the scuttle, windscreen and body line are different ... I'm sure you could rework the rear bodywork but it won't be identical to a 2 seater without major work (but maybe just having the neater rear end without being identical would be fine for you.)

Did a google search and the best I can gather this guy has done a conversion ... not sure if the site is still active or the member still contactable, but a discrete private message might get you some info (he seems to be in Oz)

Anything is possible but why make it into something it never was?

Sell it and buy a two seater!!

Going out on a limb here but big money is in cars which are true to their dispatch records rather than something which has been hacked about

Selling it is not necessarily an option for various reasons, I also said I was not dead set on doing it, that it was just something I was mulling over as an option to think about.

And I think the term "hacked" is not all that fair a thing to say, I've seen some really good work on modifications done, and I do good work I don't "hack" at cars that are my passion.

The short answer is yes , it is possible, at a cost.

The long answer is that it is lot of work, for precious little gain. Unless you are going to do all the work yourself (or have a very good "mates rates" deal, it is going to be hopelessly uneconomic (in Europe anyway, and possibly in Canada?) New Tub , near rear springs and dampers, new fuel tank (?) , new seat belt mounting points to name but a few items.

I think Pat may well have the skills .... if it's the overall look of the neat 2 seater rear end he's after rather than a millimeter perfect copy then some wood framework changes and fabricating rear quarters and deck might be a lot less work. Only he can know his personal tolerance for un-originality and elbow grease ... it certainly appears an achievable project if the motivation is there.

If he can do the work himself then a new hood and tonneau may actually be the biggest expense
