Anyway, there might be fewer two seater convertible options then at any time in the last 100 years despite many more millions of cars being produced now than in the 20th century - fortunately, we still have Morgan.

If your goal is open air with some performance, even that angle is limited these days. So even 4 door fun is being pruned

MB used offer soft C E S sizes but S was stopped with the last model, C and E and being merged. GT comes in more soft top models!
BMW, 4,6,8 offered soft tops, I think they still do if you can deal with grillgate. They continue to offer lovely engines you do want to listen to with the top down.

However for (over) balance that are hundreds of SUV's to choose from now. I think we know where the development money has gone, hi-rise suspension kits and 22" wheels.

Well impressive performance and interior finish at least as good if not better than Morgan.

RHD version available apparently.

And as a bonus the engine is in the right place now which is unusual for an American car. They even do a flat plane crank version to sound like a Ferrari wink

Does Italy offer a two seater convertible?

Lotus no longer offer one.

Look how many models the UK had for sale in previous decades.

What have we got? Porsche Boxster, MX5, and BMW - is the Merc SL north of £100k now?

As an old enthusiast growing up in the days of the MGB etc, "two seater sports cars" and "two seater convertibles" arent the same thing. So to my mind there are only a few two seater sports cars - the absolute basic bog standard no extras 911 is £200 under £100k if they will sell you a car without extras. There is the MX5, the F type until it goes, some Morgan models, the Corvette at £80k, the Boxter and various kit cars. I wouldnt call the BMW or Merc SL sports cars.

Mind you, given that the average new car price is now north of £40k, maybe your £100k is a bit low?

What's wrong with the BMW Z4? after all its only a Morgan Plus 6 with a more modern looking coat on.

Theres the Audi TT roadster, its the only other 2 seat open top car that I can think of that some might call a sportscar.

By your rules a 911 shouldn't count as its got 4 seats.

Thought Audi TT had ceased production but due to end in 2023.

You could well be right. I just saw that I could still order a new one - presumably then from already built stock.

The choice out there isn't much different from when the MX5 was launched, I traded in a Triumph Stag for a new one when they first came out, from memory the rivals at the time were:
Presumably Morgans - but with a waiting list
Caterhams
Imported Alfa Spyder S4
Reliant SS1 or Tii
A merc R107 at about 4 times the price
Lotus Elan ( fwd model)

Most 2 seaters on the road at the time were old crumbly MGB / Midget or Spitfires, a leakproof reliable MX5 was a revelation.

Yes being terminated 2023, nearly happened some time back but the UK was one of the markets that sold well and kept it in production.
