1990 +8 3.9 - car would not start, suspect fuel pump as no initial pump priming noise when you turn on the ignition? Checked the voltage at the pump, zero, so assumed it could be a fuse? Checked fuse "INJ' plus others just n case, all ok? Checked the 'cut off' if inverted thing, seems fine? Any other ideas for the knowledgable folks on here appreciated. Thanks

Fuel pump relay is a common failure, normally on the horizontal section of the firewall under the bonnet drivers side.

The fuel pump fuse is electrically after the relay with white/purple wire into it and white/blue out to pump itself via cutout switch. When required to work you should be able to measure +12 volts either side of fuse WRT chassis. Lack of voltage here would confirm likelihood of relay being faulty.

...and you may want to buy a couple of relays, as getting a duff one straight out of the box is not uncommon.

Thats a generic 12 volt 30 amp 5 pin diode relay available from any good auto electric outlet. I would be tempted to buy a couple of 40 amp diode protected ones then they can be swapped out for any other on a Morgan, not to mention being less stressed in fuel pump application.

While you are under the dashboard replacing the relay take a couple of minutes to label each relay with its function. This will really help you in future when experience other similar issues (don't ask how I know!)

I cannot remember the sequence and I am away from my notes at present, but no doubt others here do.

Jeremy, I had exactly the same problem on my 3.9, put a live from your battery to the pump, it will probably work! I replaced both of the Lucas Bosch relays, same problem.
These deteriorate on the shelf when new, the bakelite type thingy inside disintegrates. The Factory use Chinese made relays, I replaced mine with them, no further problems.
Moral of the story : not all Chinese stuff is cr*p!
