Absolutely bang on, dressed up protectionism, they don't seem too ethical when it comes to trading with countries with poor human rights records etc. Also it would become a great source of revenue generation to fix the black hole in their budgets, more taxes levied, more inflation but with a nice ethical wraparound/justification for public consumption and probably get around World Trade objections.

It doesn't bode well. How long will Steve Morris stay there now I wonder.

The very essence of what made Morgan, and what sustained Morgan for over a hundred years is melting away before our eyes.

I accept this is a generational thing. It was said by the three wheeler boys when the four wheelers came along. Its been said again over the years.

Lotus managed to hang on by a thread. I hope Morgan does so too. But the MMC I first experienced around 2005 is long gone. Even then, people harked back to long lost times in the past.

For me Morgan ceased to be the car company I fell in love with back in the 70s with the passing of Peter Morgan. I appreciate no company can stand still and changes need to be made but.......

To fund all this they eiher need a massive sales lift in the midst of a recession or cut costs. The only easily cut cost is people either by automation requiring capital, outsourcing or cutting the lower managers. All of that will impact the handmade ethos.
They don't have the clout to radically cut input costs sadly. So if I were Mr Morris I would be worried.

I agree - but would a Peter Morgan-style MMC be a viable business proposition in this day and age? The history of company failures is littered with organisations that imagined that they could just carry on doing what they had always done.

In order to keep going as a car manufacturer beyond the medium term, MMC simply _has_ to produce an EV (or other zero-emission solution), and in order to do that they have to have a platform capable of implementing it - even assuming they just buy in a motor/battery/management solution from someone else, it couldn't go on a trad chassis. That needs investment of a scale not even remotely in the grasp of a 'traditional' MMC.

MMC left me behind as a customer about 20 years ago, Charles took the company in a direction I was never going to be able to be a part of but that's never been an issue for me, I've got my Morgan and neither need nor want another. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure why they didn't simply sell the company to BMW. Perhaps they didn't want it? Let's hope InvestIndustrial can manage the way through.
