For me it doesn't make sense to change something that is functioning just in case it doesn't, both practically or financially. If I got say 20 thousand miles before problems then for me that is about 10 years. Given those numbers for 60 thousand miles (needing a further 2 sets of rollers) the cost is probably the same as getting a mod done which just makes it easier the next time, for me that is 30 years and beyond my train of thought. I understand that for higher mileages and different uses the scenario/ratios may change, but for me even at half those miles or life it doesn't make sense and I doubt I will be driving it across India and will have some form of cover as do my other cars if the worst did happen.
If you get 20 thousand miles - great - your lucky. I have known them fail from 4000 kms.....so then the car had to be recovered and then 10 hours labour to rectify the issue in a garage eventually when you can get booked in. And of course they will only replace like for like so another 4000 km's later you might be facing the same scenario again... Of course you can get cover for anything - but say your halfway on a 2000 mile tour and the rollers fail (btw you don't always get a forewarning of impending failure) then you have to get recovered, then miss the rest of the trip due to the local garage trying to work out what to do with it...

Well its a personal choice to do any modification on your own car. RichJames wants to leave it and hopefully he will be fine... for me it is more a matter of preemptive maintenance (as well as the smoother drive from the extra bearing in the drivetrain). Each to their own!

Being able to change the rollers without taking the engine out of the car is the real revolution enabled by Phil B's work and hence great reassurance when on a tour a long way from home given the well reported propensity for the rollers to fail suddenly.

4000km is a bit pessimistic but if it has happened then it has, mostly I would say it probably doesn't I would go back to Morgan if I had the same problem after 4000km after spending 10hrs on labour

I changed my Centa for the Bleazey's upgrade one recently this summer. My car had around 13.000 km and still under factory warranty. But I changed it anyway.
Why? Because we tour with the 3-Wheeler. In September 2021 we did Madrid - Southwestern France - Grindelwald and back again. Many thousands of kms to enjoy a trip with friends. And if doing so your rollers fail, you have no other choice than been recovered and miss the rest of the holidays. It happened to a couple of friends while being in Switzerland then! As we were going to do this same trip this year, we didn't want to take the risk.
During this preventive change this summer, when we removed the engine we found that one of our rollers was missing a huge chunk. Once one roller is broken, you can have all others destroyed in few miles, or be lucky and still run some hundreds more. But once one roller is done, the other three may brake too and really fast because the whole system is unbalanced.
And, if you don't have this upgrade, and you're out of warranty, the cost in a Morgan dealer workshop to take out the engine and back is not cheap at all. And on many occasions MMC claims that the rollers are consumable items such as tyres and brake pads, so even if you're under warranty you may not be covered and pay the huge bill.
The rollers will fail. That’s for sure at 100%. The unknown is when. So, again, if you use your car to do just short daily trips not far from home, it’s not a big deal to wait for these to fail. But if you’re touring crossing the Atlas mountains in Morocco (one of our next trips, hopefully soon), that’s a totally different story, isn’t?
My opinion about doing this Centa modification or not depends more on the kind of use you do to your 3-Wheeler than anything else.

As I said, for me it's not worth the expense until I need it as I have no intension of touring across the world if I were then my thoughts may be different

Phil is having some couplings made with undersize splines so they can be individually fitted to each crank. I'm on the waiting list.

The Centa coupling is yet another half-baked engineering solution from Morgan. Anyone with experience of this type of coupling knows that the rubber inserts have a finite life. It seems even Morgan know this and yet they made no attempt to make them accessible, which would have been extremely easy at the production stage. Is there even any mention of inspection/maintenance requirements in the handbook ? The catalogue of engineering incompetence on the M3W is quite staggering IMHO.

The service schedule has been posted on a thread before and from memory it does state about "check Centa rollers" as a service item - which is impossible on a standard M3W...
