Howdy all,

I'm about to fit some new seatbelts to my 2012 M3W...as dirt ingress into the old inertia reel mechanisms have rendered them useless.

I've read somewhere that later cars had a shield or cover to reduce this problem.

If so - does anyone have some photos or diagram to demonstrate what the factory solution was?

Thanks & regards,

Rhys

The later cars have a plastic shield clipped in place from behind, covering the void as shown in the top of your picture. I achieved the same on my first M3W by using Aluminium tape to cover the void.

My June 2012 car has this shield so they must have started fitting them fairly early on in the production run. Interestingly, it is not shown in the parts book so finding a part number might take a bit of detective work (or a call to Nobby at Krazy Horse).

Interesting as my May 2013 car didn't have it

Our early April 2012 car had a shield fitted when the bevel box was changed a few months later after our first very wet (and noisy) trip to Spain and back.....
