Interesting to see that Porsche are topping the list for the most unreliable vehicles.....Unreliable Cars

Ferrari, McLaren, Bentley, Lamborghini and Rolls Royce are topping the Unreliable Used Car lists, with Tesla coming in at Number 10 Unreliable Used Cars

Not a Morgan to be found on either..... smile smile

Isn't it just that increasing complexity in something which experiences such huge temperature variations will generate problems?

A transporter load of Jaguar EV's caught fire on the M1 on Monday afternoon. They didn't disclose whether the cause was one of the EVs or the transporter.

As there's not much in the way of sources of ignition or combustible stuff halfway down a steel transporter trailer and the Cab's intact I'd say it was pretty much certain one of the cars was the source of the fire.

Only other possible cause would be a brake binding and a tyre on the truck catching fire .... truckers aren't often dozy enough to let something like that get out of hand and the fire extinguishers they carry are meant to deal with that .... EV battery fire not so much!!

Not that I even like Porsche vehicles, could it be that the sheer popularity of them, especially the hateful Tonka Toys, means that there are going to be more faults afterall my experiences with 3 Morgans was that they were hardly fault free. The lorry load of Jaguar EV's doesn't bode well for their future in light of the fact that they will only build EV's from 2025 onwards that is if they are even still here building cars of any sort.

I bought my 1968 911S with 80,000 miles on the clock and put 50,000 trouble free miles on it. It was a lucky car for me as on one occasion it executed a perfect 180° on a diesel soaked right angle bend, seemingly choreographed to neatly miss a passing car. Even when the clutch cable broke it was within walking distance of home, so simply replaced cable myself the following day.

I did have throttle bodies and timing chain tensioners overhauled but was just to keep it up to scratch. Even bought a set of barrels and pistons cheap at London dealer sale but never needed them. All electrics worked including sun roof and all this on a complex car of the period given dry sump, Bosch mechanical fuel injection and 80 bhp/litre.

Very fond memories. Times have changed it seems frown

There are many reasons why folk buy into the idea of owning a Porsche.. The kiss principal was high on my list when I bought my first Porsche a 912, it was found to be as suspected, Beetle build quality and reliability in a sports car monocoque, that was back in the seventies. Two 911`s followed on as I was hooked for a decade or two. Now after a twenty year break I am back in a 911 derivative in the form of a 991.1.

When I decided to buy a tin top sports car again, the first car that came to mind was an air cooled 911, the last of which I sold for £11k around the turn of the century, such was the market a year ago that I could have paid £40-60k to buy the same car I sold back in the late 90`s... No amount of man maths could justify that evaluation to me.... I could well remember repairing the effects of slight corrosion on my Porsche back then, now 20 years on...!

Having researched water cooled Porsches, I was disappointed to read of issues that did not do anything to rekindle fondness for the marque, add to that my digital delusions relating to all sorts of unnecessary circuitry just bound to incorporate more complexity in maintenance and repair, thus to buy back into Porsche with some degree of confidence on a then 9 year old Porsche that looked as good as new, I felt I also had to buy into the Porsche extended warranty plan which is in effect a 3 year insurance plan covering manufacturers defects and covers cars up to 15 years old and I think 140k miles...

There are lots of reasons why folk buy Porsche 911 derivatives many of which are covered in this vid, and which seems to have covered most of the reasons I bought back in too..!

The last 'modern' 911's I had were 997's when they were current. I still like the look of them but the potential costs put me off getting one now.
The latest cars, 992, don't really interest me, they're just very nice, very fast, very expensive, luxury executive cars.

I've had a couple of aircooled cars. They are relatively simple to maintain, but that doesn't mean they're cheap to run....!

The first one I had was when they were (relatively) cheap and I could just thrash it round without worrying too much.

My last car had recently (previous owner) had a top end rebuild by one of the very big names in the UK at a cost of £20k.........
I knew it needed a bit of body work when I bought it, but as soon as you start digging the costs just go mental. Unless they've had a full resto they're all rusty.
I've got the porsche thing well and truly out of my system now😆

+ no one will ever let you out at a junction in a 911 and everyone thinks you're a knob................

I've had 4 Porsches over the years: a 1978 911SC Targa, a 2010 997 Carrera 2, a 2014 Macan Diesel and currently still have a 2011 987 Cayman R. None have ever needed anything other routine servicing and consumables. I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed now and will keep in contact with my wooden desk! hide

No complaints from this Porsche owner. Whereas my Plus 8 needed a long list of faults corrected under warranty.
