Absolutely, we need further governance, far more accountability and personal integrity and a clear separation of powers to ensure that no-one can be in a position to exploit any given set of circumstances/opportunity. Having spent many years in internal audit and fraud investigation one learns that any control system that relies upon an individual's personal integrity will at some point fail.

I was talking to a relative at the weekend - he lives up in Derbyshire and is a member of the funny handshake club. He says there were a whole raft of people who were given a £30000 bung as a precurser to a complulsory purchase order on their properties, and then they changed the HS2 route so they can now keep their houses and the £30,000......

All that you type in this thread to date seems to further underline my thinking also typed earlier in this thread, in that "fixing" human nature seems an impossible task..?

As for understanding and more importantly "controlling" human nature....Well now that is an entirely different matter, all that takes is a catch phrase or two and the next thing you know, we end up led by the goon show or some nut job with despotic intentions.

In truth I suspect it might be better for one`s piece of mind to adopt some sort of belief in the afterlife and bury your mind in it, or indeed that you know the answer to our ills...(-:
