Reading around the fleet operators websites I picked up a comment that the EC 2035 ban on ICE vehicles contains what is called "The Ferrari Clause". The article states that low-volume automakers producing fewer than 1,000 passenger vehicles and LCVs per year are exempt from the new measures for the foreseeable future. So that means Morgan. This raises the question of engines: significant parts of the world are NOT going down the EV wormhole, so there will be engines. By 2035 I'll be 83, so probably not bothered much....but it is good to know that, assuming the UK mirrors EU vehicle legislation, the future of Morgan, et.al, is safe.

It reminds me of the bicycle fanatics that seem to think they are saving the planet and everyone should ride a bicycle. Naturally this gives them rights and concessions that don't apply to mere mortals.

By 2035 all the big car manufacturers will most likely not be producing ICE engines and as the likes of Morgan have and may always be reliant on outsourcing their engines from the same big car manufacturers that will have gone EV, its questionable whether they will maintain ICE engine manufacturing resources and if they do the 'low' volumes will not enjoy high volume economies of scale and therefore any engines may be prohibitively expensive. Secondly will they support the ICE engine with spares etc and the resultant stock holding and infrastructure costs associated with low volume obsolete engine spares.

Given that BMW are going the way of the EV that engine source will dry up. As for Ford they'll probably do likewise.
Maybe Japan would be a source for engines in the long run given that they are taking very cautious steps towards alternate drive trains?

There will always be an ICE produced by the major manufacturers to cater for their huge export markets where EV will never be viable I believe.

While many European nations had previously decided to ban the sale of internal combustion-engined vehicles by 2030 or 2035 in most cases, now some 30 countries, as well as automakers, agreed to stop permitting the sale of ICE vehicles after the year 2040. The agreement was reached during the United Nations’ COP26 conference on climate change, that is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, but many important names did not take the pledge. Right now the automakers that have agreed to the pledge are Ford, General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, China’s BYD and India’s Tata Motors. Some of these manufacturers have already made their own pledges to not have ICE in their range even sooner - the year 2030 in Volvo’s case, while Mercedes’ parent company Daimler has said it will have a CO2-free fleet of vehicles by 2039. The United States, Germany or China did not take the pledge, while on the automakers’ side, names such as Volkswagen, Stellantis, Toyota. In Germany’s case, officials said that they did not adhere because there was still no internal consensus on the matter, and that the country’s position would be clarified at a later date. The countries that have so far agreed to the 2040 ICE ban pledge are: Austria, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Canada, Cape Verde, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Finland, Ghana, Kenya, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Rwanda, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and Uruguay. There are also several major non-automotive companies that also signed, including UK retailer Sanisbury’s, as well as the ride-hailing company Uber, and even cities that signed independently of what had been decided in their countries - Brazil’s largest city, Sao Paulo, as well as the South Korean capital, Seoul. source November 2021 https://insideevs.com/news/547093/countries-cities-automakers-ban-2040/

The issue of not producing ICE engines needs to be seen on the global level not the UK or EU? However each little step in the right direction is still better than one in the wrong direction.
Many of those companies sell a lot in places where the cost of BEV would be a fail. Toyota in Africa for example. Would Toyota dump Petrol/Diesel and remove the sales of every dictators favourite mount for his/her/they 50mm canon, the Hilux pickup. The mechanical camel of the continent?
I would imagine those markets will remain for quite some time. They may not demand something of the BMW S68 grade of engineering however?
Lets face it AMG are already going to a slightly dark place with the 4 pot + batteries in the C63 so if they are on the way then the rest of the system is in trouble.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Very interesting discussion... I think the Morgen company will have an electric motor sooner or later. I am not convinced of the technology yet either. The problem of charging infrastructure will still be a big challenge. In order to have a say, I have ordered an EQS after much deliberation. The acceleration convinced me the most after a test drive. However, delivery has already been postponed to March 2023.
