I accept your point that for many years Morgan were at the same level as their contemporaries. Definitely. That probably stopped in the late fifties.
I guess the build quality in the 30's of all the manufacturers was pretty similar.
I think the point I was trying to make was that after all those years (100) they were only just about making trad cars to an acceptable standard, so it should come as no surprise if new CX cars have 'issues'. The thing is though that CX cars are much more expensive and buyers have a right to expect a higher standard.
I absolutely love the stubbornness that MMC have shown to keep making the same timewarp product for a niche market long after they should have stopped. I love old-fashiondness. I love handmade.
It is a tricky future for low volume car makers.

Not a fan of EV ... but in a world of speed cameras, top-end is already at hypothetical levels ... the acceleration that electric motors give however would make for an exciting package whilst retaining your licence. I'll be clinging to my dinosaur burner as long as I live or am allowed to by law ... I still fear that even obviously 'driven by reality' legislation won't please the quasi-religous fervour of the likes of the XR/JSO amorphous activist groups and we'll see current vandalism of petrol stations and SUV tyre slashing escalating into direct physical attacks on ICE cars and their drivers ... you can read in the swivel-eyed robotic rhetoric of their 'spokespersons' that such would be seen as perfectly appropriate action to take against 'planet-killers'.
K
Ps ...I could see the Super 3 as the first EV .... it's already broken the mould and aims at the right demographic to weather the change with little comment As you eloquently state, we are already seeing the start of agitation and protests on climate change and its causes, its only a matter of time before it starts to focus on the damage the ICE causes. The biggest consumer of hydrocarbons is plastics which without question are major polluters of the oceans etc. another just cause for activists against the hydrocarbon industry Add to that we already have refinery capacity issues and eg diesel shortages throughout Europe forcing higher prices than petrol, and I don't think any body is building further refining capacity. The moral acceptability of the ICE, unless a clean replacement alternative fuel can be economically produced, is increasing swinging away from being an acceptable mode of transport.

To be fair, I've spent the last 30+ years living off grid while the road-squatters have been guzzling the world's resources like there's no tomorrow .... now, all of a sudden, they're all up in arms about what any rational person could see coming down the road decades ago (hence our move to a rural location with land and the planting of thousands of trees, setting up stand-alone water, sewage and electrical systems along with growing the majority of our own vegetables) ... I have no intention of being guilted out of enjoying my low-impact, long-lived little toy car or the Defender I need for workhorse duties (for which there is currently no EV alternative) by a bunch of grey-haired wannabe Che Guevaras or paint splashing children with a tenuous grasp of both physics and their own gender.

Not sure that qualifies as a rant, rather than an objective analysis of a significant section of society.

Jon .... at 2.5 tons and with only 63 miles range towing (and only 130 ish running solo) and £60k I can't see me abandoning my 300tdi Defender 90 in a hurry .... good that someone's having a go but I wouldn't be putting my money down just yet
K
Ps ... and it's a ton down on towing capacity compared to my old oil-burner

I was just thinking, of all the people I know, only one person has an electric car. He is a lifelong petrol head but bought his taycan cross tourismo mainly because of the massive amount of tax he was able to save. It is amazingly fast, but the size of a bus!
The local council in my town have, this year, put in loads of car charging points in the town center. They are almost never used. Apparently it would take forever to charge a car up at one of them. There seems to be plenty of electric cars whirring round the town though, I guess they all charge up at home..?
I suppose that as the technology progresses it may become less expensive and available to more people.

I wish them luck, but like Keith it's not going to replace my 200Tdi 90 Particularly as it's well out of my budget. (I did check their vacancies section - but nothing there at present )
