The Russians love him as he is a strong guy, or they did last time I was there c 5 years ago, but behind him are a whole cohert of similar minded folk sadly.

I've read many contradictory reports coming out on his health. Reading between the lines he is not going to die soon without some help. More likely he will be deposed which traditionally means he won't live long after for whatever reason.

I agree on the "be careful what you wish for" warning but cannot see any new tyrant on the block would continue to make the same mistakes or try to win the war by being tougher still, so remain mildly optimistic.

Dictators who invade other nations don't have a good track record, and you would think that even mad dictators would consider history.

But no. Who was the last Dictator to successfully invade other countries? I realise this is complex, and colonialisation muddies the water.

As some of you know I lived in Russia for a number of years, I will say that the West's general public's view of the Bear is distorted and underestimates the strength of resolve the Russian population has which is far greater than that of the NATO Countries. I listen to the evening news on Russian radio which of course is government coerced and heavily weighted in anti West rhetoric, however, I will say that over the last couple of months there has been a shift to not so strong language in support of Putin even to the point at times of not mentioning him by name. Make of that what you will.
