Paul if you attach Givi saddlebags on your luggage rack are required to my knowledge base plates.
If I'm right I would be interested in a picture with the luggage rack and the mounted base plate.

I have no waterproof case recommendations, though having a specially made fiberglass case specially designed for fitment to my Morgan by Kevin it`s restorer, there are a couple of other considerations that might be worth consideration..?

Rearward view via the internal mirror seems to have played a part in the design of my Morgan case as did a degree of anti-theft should the Morgan and case be left unattended while touring.

The anti-theft part being that the case could be locked shut and the case could be fixed to the rack using "P" clips, the clips being fixed through the base of the case with stainless steel set screws, nuts, spring and penny washers.

Rearward vision is obviously reduced to some degree though to overcome that required the ability to adjust the positioning of the internal rear view mirror seems key. Internal mirror adjustment on my Morgan was no problem, it being fitted with the type of mirror that can slide up and down on a supporting post mounted between the top of the dash and the top of the windscreen frame... With the case fitted the mirror required to be raised up the post to provide the most advantageous angle out of the more restricted view, more important to get that right when the hood is fitted.

I had thought to have a couple of soft bags made to fit inside the case leaving it affixed to the Mog rather than get involved in dismounting it at overnight stays, but never got round to it....!

I hope this little rambles assists in your planning. I hoped to post a pic of the set-up but seems I have fouled up that process yet again... blush

Here you are Clemens.

I was fortunate to find a Givi dealer who had demo mounting plates in stock unused. These are much easier to adapt to fit a Morgan luggage rack than any specific to a make of motorcycle. I used U bolts to mount stainless plates to the rack and then bolted the Givi mounting plates to these. The rubber lined p clips are to prevent sideways movement but don't seem to be required.

And here it is with Givi panniers attached and Mrs F in the background at Dublin ferry port last summer:

Another vote for an Overboard bag, totally waterproof, unlike my car (proven in several storms). Plus it doesn't block your rear view mirror like the suitcases.

Paul thank you for the pictures. thumbs I find you here at TM really a very helpful troupe. cheers
You really have perfect solution for quick mounting of luggage.
I'm also just thinking about how and what luggage I on the rack for longer trips. The decision of what to do here reminds me once again of my Harleys .... function or optics.
The bags behind the seats are already ordered from Classic Travelling Luggage.

I too am a Boot Bag fan find it very practical and adaptable for large or small loads. I put squishy holdall type bags inside the Boot Bag I can then pack what is needed daily in one bag and what is needed on a more limited basis in another bag which means not having to rummage through one big bag every day. Have used the Boot Bag in every kind of weather with no problems kept everything dry.

Just one note of caution Clemens. On my 4/4, the high level brake light is central and it has been possible to arrange the Givi cases so that it can be seen with a good angle of view. That may not be the case with your Plus Four.

I too use an 80 litre Overboard bag. I actually bought it as a dry bag to keep my wet gear from kayaking in and prevent the amp escaping outwards into my tin top.

Then my ever clever wife suggested if it keeps water IN it should also keep water OUT. This has proved to be the case and it is now mounted on the luggage rack whenever we do a longer tour.

For a weekend break we use 2 Hills Alive cases , yes they are expensive and simple squashy bags can fulfil the same function, BUT they do maximise the volume available and are very easy to stow away. If it fits in the case , it fits in the car.

Remember that a heavy load mounted on the luggage rack is not good for the balance of the car. It can contribute to tail-happy behaviour.
