What did I do today?
Checked the battery voltage.

The last time I drove the car was on 20 November 2022.
I really must wake her up!

In & out the garage for a quik detailing & some checks. Resulting in a bit of a drive in the sun.

Today I replaced my battery and decided to swap the ‘croc clip fly lead’ on my CTEK MXS 5 battery conditioner for the ‘eyelet fly lead’ - connecting the lead directly onto the positive and negative terminals on the battery which prompted me to have a quick look at the manual. The manual says for batteries mounted inside a vehicle you should connect the negative (black) clamp to the chassis away from the fuel pipe and the battery. For years I’ve been connecting the croc clips directly onto the battery terminals – are CTEK being over cautious or should I now separate the black clamp?

Decided to change the auxilary tension pulley, which I thought was noisy. Well my interpretation with a large screwdriver on the pulley nut & on my ear. Their is something noisy up the front on start up cold.
The pulley I had got, whilst the correct dimensions did not fit. The chamfer on the edge causing it to jam when fitted to the tensioner. Anyway fitted a new belt & replaced the old pulley, which seemed ok. No noise on finger spin & not over running.
So I would still like to try a new one. The OEM one fitted is from Poland.

Anyone know where I might find one. I have tried all usual outlets but it would seem the fitting to our sigma engines is odd.

Bought the classic Morgan suitcase, wont have it on the rack full time but for showing and trip down to the Cotswolds later this year it will look dandy.

The advice to connect the earth lead away from the battery is to minimise explosion risk from hydrogen given off by a battery interacting with a possible spark as you make the connection. So it is only really applicable if you are in the act of connecting jump leads or connecting the charger. Now that a firm bolted connection has been established, the danger has been overcome.
However, when I made a permanent connection to mine, I added an inline fuse to the positive wire adjacent to the battery, to protect the wiring in case it shorted out to earth or bodywork, along its route, or if the charger itself developed an internal fault which could then be catastrophically fed by the full capacity of the battery.

Moggo, I also fitted a Cetek 5 direct to the battery of my +4 last week. The guff that came with it said there is a fail safe device that shuts it down if there is any kind of short circuit.

But it won't shut your battery down if there's a short to something metal anywhere along the +ve lead .... an inline fuse right up near the +ve terminal stops that fire risk
