Hello all, I’m in the midst of rebuilding my Smiths heater. My switch (see picture) has given up the ghost. Is there a trick to safely getting the knob off? Or do you just need to pull with enough force? I’d like to preserve the knob if possible. On the side it has a hole but it doesn’t appear to go anywhere and doesn't have a setscrew in it. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/02/05/FDF7FDD6-2BCB-4A83-8539-7CEDE12BFC56.jpeg) Any advice appreciated Cheers -Nelson ‘66 Plus 4.

Easy when you know how!
Press a suitable sized screwdriver into the hole and pull the knob.
The screwdriver will compress a pin and spring which holds the knob onto the shaft.
Soaking it overnight with a bit of penetrative oil will help

Good news is that should you damage either, the heater rheostat or just the knob are still available. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/smIAAOSwDFBZ8Lq6/s-l1600.jpg) You can see above the spring loaded knob securing pin Arwyn refers to.

Arwyn, Richard, thank you!!! It really is one of those things that you know or you don’t. I’ve got some penetrating oil soaking in it now, will give it a day or so to work it’s magic. Hope I can save the knob- I see repros all around but only in black or ivory. Never seen the brown version except on my car.
I’ll let you know how removal goes, and final pics once the heaters finished.
