Heinz I can't imagine why anybody would be foolish enough to turn off traction control in a Plus 6, there have been a number of "loss of control" accidents at low speed due to the gearbox down changing unexpectedly and sending the car out of control. A recent one known to me where a Plus 6 going from a 30mph zone to a 40 mph zone on a damp road being driven by an experienced driver crossed the road colliding with an oncoming vehicle causing life changing injuries to the Morgan occupants.

Good point Aerotaff.
I was happy to pay £75K for a 2019 launch edition car which was spec'd to £95K when new, and with about £4K worth of extra options thrown in by the factory for the sale (including the comfort seats, brand new black alloy wheels and black grill) and with only 3K development miles on the clock.
Is that really a lot of money for such a quick, well spec'd car? Personally I don't think so but others may disagree.
Not the same story for the new model though IMO, but Morgan had to add traction control, airbags etc. to get the approvals to sell into the US market. This changes the whole value proposition for me and I wouldn't pay £110K for essentially the same car as mine.

I assume this conversation will run and run and only hindsight is likely to give us a clear view of the long term retained value of the CX cars. We have decades of history tracking trad values and I assume there were similar debates when the Aero cars arrived and when they ceased. There are probably still too many variables at play to understand what the future demand for these cars will be, let alone at what price. The one thing we do know though, is the supply is still small by modern car standards and appeal of the Morgan has been pretty enduring and constant over time. I don’t believe the CX cars change that.

From a personal perspective as a newbie MY22 PlusFour owner, it wasn’t a massive part of my decision, but was reassuring to believe (hope) that the car was likely depreciate much less than pretty much anything else I was likely to consider buying. I still believe that is likely to be true - and with the MY23 price rises, seems valid at least for the moment. I just checked the current prices for MY22 cars on the pre-owned cars on MMC and only one was close to the original new price for a base level car (£65k) and most were well over £70k. I know their specs are not base level but that doesn’t seem to imply a significant loss of value yet - especially knowing that the MY23 cars are £10k+ more and normal cars can lose 15% or similar just being driven off the forecourt.

Personally, at 6’7”, the longer cockpit in the CX cars, made it my only real option. I am also super happy with the full veneer dash and a pretty MotaLita steering wheel on my MY22 car and assume that will always make it attractive to others too - not that I currently intend to sell the car in the future but who knows what will happen …

Our Plus Six is a MY21 model year. We have had heaps of different issues with it, enough to almost fill up a A4 sheet of paper, having said this the factory and dealer have perservered above and beyond and hopefully after the next scheduled return to dealer it will be sorted. We kept faith with the car because it was exactly what we wanted, we find the seats are absolutely fine, its cabin is wider between seats than our old Roadster plus leg room is now good for me ( I am over 6ft in height ) These points make a comfortable driving position and the car is fun to drive. The cars lack of traction control is not an issue for us as the car is mainly used for touring.

Now would I buy a MY 23 model with all the lastest changes and price and the answer is absolutely not.. I find the MY23 dash hideous, for me it just does not work and has ruined the interiors look. Plus no way would I spec with part cloth upholstery. The addition of traction control would not make me buy it, as it gives yet more levels of complexity. Having already experienced the issues with our MY years systems I do not trust Morgans ability to provide quality and reliability to yet another semi complex system. The only bit that interests me is the change of braking system, but I suspect that was mainly undertaken to allow for traction control.

This bit may annoy...... I think that the issue now with the higher price range is that the cars cost does not reflect in the standard of overall quality of its components and its construction..Morgan need to hugely step up their quality control.

I bought a Morgan PlusFour because I was excited about the vehicle. In my view, an object has two values. One is what it is worth to me, the other is what others are willing to pay for it.
From my current point of view, my Morgan MY 2022 has a higher value for me than I paid for it.

This sounds like a very tragic story. From that point of view, traction control is certainly good to have. My only concern was the question of the technology, whether it can be switched off at all.

That seems to me to be the crux of the concern from many … not helped of course by the experiences of the last year or so.

The other is the future financial viability of MMC itself and whether it has priced itself out of its viable market. Time will tell, whether the quality issue is a blip or continued pattern AND whether the MY23 pricing is a step too far for future customers, with associated consequences for the dealers and MMC itself.

Fingers crossed for positive outcomes on both fronts. wink

The 2023 CX cars are, from my inspection in the Williams show room, all they should have been. I was impressed by the fit and finish and the many engineering changes, some subtle, some major.
Henry told me that the brakes were "sorted" by Brembo: how was this arranged? The Morgan CEO has close connections with the CEO of Brembo, who own AP Racing.

BUT the Aeros have AP Racing brakes that are generally considered to be superb, so what went wrong between Morgan and AP Racing since they worked together on the Aero chassis cars 20 years ago, could it be the loss of Charles Morgan? The result is that the first generation CX cars have brakes that were inferior, at best and unusable, at worst, causing a recall that was a massive overreaction.

Anyway, I'm taking a PlusFour out for a test drive in March. I was underwhelmed by the launch CX Plus Six

Might I be swayed? As David has said above, the pricing of the 2023 models takes them into another world. I compared the price of a new edition of my Boxster S with a similarly specified Plus Four. The Boxster is a shade cheaper. The Plus Six is in the bottom of the 911 market. I too have concerns that they are moving into a world that most of the team at Malvern simply don't comprehend. The CEO does, the investors can keep the finances going, but will the market buy a £140,000 Morgan?
Possibly, based on the prices some used Aeros and AeroMax cars make. I'm hopeful, but not yet convinced.

Interesting times.

A lot of similar QA issues existed in the Aero. It went through several versions of improvement. As everything moving forwards is on the CX they have an incentive to get it right as it is the only option. There is a lot more complexity in the Plus, the old angle iron V8 and gen 3 electrics in the Aero are somewhat easier. Interesting times.

As for the price - we saw the same thing back then, the Coupe was up for £114k retail. We have been here before.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

On German mobile.de, there are 22 Plus six, 12 of which are new cars.
And more than 25 Plus four, most of them new, a few of them in Holland and Belgium. To me this seems relatively many, but I am not an expert. Most are MY 2022 and I suspect that dealers will have to buy a lot of MY 2023 soon in addition.

Plus six

https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/search.html?dam=0&isSearchRequest=true&ms=17900%3B9%3B%3B%3B&ref=dsp&s=Car&vc=Car

Here is a mix with Plus four and 4 models

https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/...fId=39203280-3843-0a2f-d78c-bd1f940a917a

Interestingly, the trads appear with a rather confident price. E.g. there is only one 4/4 Sigma, from 2011, all the other 4/4 are much older decades. The Sigma is said to cost over 50000€, new it was 39000€.
Also the Roadsters demand a quite high price measured by age and mileage, about 65K to 75K€, the 3.0 as well.
