I know that the risk of a doom spiral is quite high, but...........
Not only are there a lot of CX cars for sale, there also seems to be a hell of a lot of trads for sale as well, many have been sat with dealers for months and months. I think that dealers do try to build up a bit of stock in anticipation of the spring/summer 'rush', but some have 25+ cars in stock, with probably 4 to 6 CX cars in that number. I would guess that a lot of cars are on SOR, it would surely be beyond the financial resources of most Morgan dealers to 'own' them all. The cost of the CX cars soon pushes the value of cars in stock well over 7 figures, and nothing seems to be moving...!
In the 'old days', when the most expensive car in the range was £70k ish it made up a small percentage of the total sales with the bulk of sales being more 'affordable' 4/4's and +4's. Spec of cars remained unchanged for decades, people knew they were buying an already old fashioned and outdated car, but they were happy with that, and they were also happy to wait, sometimes for years for it. They knew it would leak, creak and rattle, but they were happy with that.
Now, with the starting price being well over £70k it would seem inevitable that sales will dramatically fall off. Where or who is the market? The US?
MY updates like 'real' car manufacturers, changes of spec, new tech and 'modern' features all cause quality issues for the hand building work force in Malvern. When prices are pushing towards, and in some cases past, £100k there can be no excuses. I was fortunate enough to go to the Porsche experience center at Silverstone again yesterday. When you see the what £70 to £100k will buy you from Stuttgart you've got to question the direction that MMC are going.
100% agree with all this. I would also like to factor in that the market as a whole is starting to cool down. Just a few months ago one was faced with paying new car price, or more, for a slightly used one due to shortages. This has cooled. Sadly, many retailers are saddled with stock they likely paid too much for and are finding it hard to shift. I would also like to add that with Morgan in general, a first time punter will find it very hard to understand why two cars of the same ilk and year can have prices vary by as much as £20-30k. Most options on a Morgan are colour, trim and things that are not much different from what you get as standard. Put two 911s side by side with a £30k differential and it can easily be explained why this is the case. Not so much with a Morgan I'm afraid.

Yep, very true. I feel sorry for the dealers who are now sitting on fully spaced Plus 4’s at 90k and 6’s at 110k, they all have the very pricy audio system etc which I expect is in a bid to get new car orders for it if the demo has it.
I personally think they have going above what the market will bear in terms of pricing, add to the fact that most existing owners who would of traded up to a CX will have done so by now so running out of upgrade orders apart from The very wealthy, let’s hope there is enough of them.
It very much changes the demographic of new Morgan owner.
When I was about 7 or 8 my parents took me to the Morgan factory for a tour, this would be about 1994, as they waiting list was 8 years they thought about outing my name down for a new Morgan as one could save up and I would get it when I was 17, this was when Morgan’s where affordable sports cars.
I bought a tatty sh Morgan when I was 21 and had one ever since. I now have 18 month twin boys with their own Morgan pedal cars but unless we win the lottery when they go a factory tour they are old enough I sadly don’t think it will be an option to put their names on the waiting list for a new one…
Times have very much changed but at least there are plenty of classic Morgan’s around to keep the dream alive for the next generation

Seems a fair summation Julian. I wonder now if MMC are hoping to play one world market against another. Feeding the US market in production and sales this year (assuming not too many of the negatives filter through) to feed a vacuum whilst allowing excess cars over here to be sold (hopefully) this summer with production switching back to the closer markets next year. Even if correct cannot see this policy working long term though.

Looking at that car at Melvyn's, do they all have front wings sticking out further than the rear wings at the join? Looks odd to me.

Looks odd and more like build quality than a design feature, unless the Configurator now has a KitKat bar stowage facility, for dunking in the latte in the cup holder ? (If so beware the fabric seat cushions). ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/02/25/Plus-Six-at-Rutters-Feb-2023-wing-join.jpeg)

I think that is by design. I had a look at a few other in stock images and all seem to have this,. Not as pronounced on the Plus Four with a few Plus Six examples having slightly less than the above but that could just be the angle and perspective of the image taken.

I've just looked at the MR plus 6 advert. My god that interior is boring/bland/miserable..... MR tends to put 'just arrived' on all car adverts, then leave it there! I suppose it adds a sense of urgency to the transaction and 'motivates' the buyer..... it could have been there ages, who knows. Lets tick off the months from now until a buyer succumbs to the £110k temptation....... The running board(front wing)/rear wing joint looks like sloppy design to me, perhaps combined with traditional malvern build tolerances......

We ran over a dead badger a few years ago it launched the car about 3ft in the air on a closer inspection we had bent the lower bit of the rear wing the bit at the end of the running board, the guy from dentmaster said he had never worked on an ally car with so much thickness in the wings.

his "wandering" thread prompted me to check out the fit between the running board (rear end of the front wing) and the rear wheel fender on our 2019 Plus Six. the front wing lines up with the beading on the rear wing so it is fine by my estimations. I do think we are getting a bit nit-picking over the build of our Morgans. Remember these are robot built machines but rather hand-built works of art! All this tells me I'm driving a unique car.
I have another European convertible that is very "nice" to drive but it certainly does not give me the thrill and feelings of being behind the wheel of our Plus Six. To be honest all of our Morgans have give us something rather special and great enjoyment. Kerry
