Morning all, Can anyone who has driven or owns a CX Plus Four or Plus Six with a hardtop shed any light on the different driving experience especially in terms of cabin noise compared to a regular soft top? Finding the soft top very noisy at motorway cruising speeds & wondered if the hard top was any quieter. Cheers

Nigel Bradford at MOG magazine has a Plus Four LeMans and will be in a good position to tell you - maybe ping the magazine an email or give him a call.

I had a Plus six first edition with both soft top and hardtop. The car was a little quieter with the hardtop on but it was an absolute pain to put on and take off as the electrical connection you had to undo to remove the soft top prior to fitting the hardtop for the rear brake light was incredible poorly designed and very very difficult to do. To fit the hard top on a Morgan you have to completely remove the soft top and find somewhere to store it , fit new brackets and then install the hardtop, not a quick job todo and the brackets on my hardtop had to be repaired as the bonding to the hardtop cracked, this was after using the hardtop for one run. . My hardtop also leaked along the windscreen seal. Just bought a new model year 23 plus six and decided against a hardtop for the previous reasons as well as the eye watering price Morgan now charge for it

Open the boot, slide it into place, and lock off four catches. It is then quieter, and watertight. And there's storage for the soft top too. [edit: don't forget to close the boot!] That said, I saw the hardtop was manufactured and *then* there was a car at the factory 'testing' the hardtop. My hard top arrived some months after the car, which was well over a year after the first cars escaped to customers. And even then to get a good fit to my car it took the Dealer to fettle the positioning of all the fittings... Sounds like the Plus cars' hardtop is a real step backwards :-( Will

The newer hardtops look like they fit really well but I was unaware of these issues. I hope your new Plus Six is good.

I have a Plus Six with hardtop and I agree it’s not an easy job to change from soft to hardtop. For me the hardtop is waterproof and great for touring but not sure I would order again on a new car. The look is so retro and that’s the main reason I would purchase it.

On my TRAD the hardtop was noisier than the softtop On my PLUS Four I have yet to drive it without the hardtop; driving it with the hardtop is nice, no water ingress till now
The hardtop on the Trad had a smaller back window: that was much cosier, I prefer the old hardtop
(Dis)Mounting the hardtop: sorry, but that is a job I leave to my dealer, I’ll have a nice coffee and a chat with the manager while the team takes care of switching the hard/soft-top

Our Plus Six was ordered as one of the 50 First Edition versions that had a hardtop included as part of the package. However when we were advised that the hardtop delivery was delayed and would not be available until February e happily took the GBP3000. A luck escape as being in New Zealand and Williams Morgan in the UK it would have been a real experience getting it fitted.
I find the car with the hood up quite compared with the noise with the hood down - love the roar of the exhaust and those turbos!! Kerry
