I don’t normally respond to posts but this has made my blood pressure rise . You admit you were speeding but like the rich and famous ..David Beckham is a good example, you are looking for a get out clause ……. Get your cheque book out.

Have your read the full thread ?

For reasons already mentioned, and while recovering from a severe bout of flu which caused my partner and I to postpone the trip until the last minute, I dragged myself out of bed to drive down to Cornwall on Christmas day to see my father who has an aggressive terminal cancer. During the 800 mile round trip I wasn't feeling my best emotionally or physically and uncharacteristically managed to pick up two speeding tickets which really was the icing on the cake.

After having a clean license for more than 15 years I'd really rather not have six points and if there's a legal way to avoid at least three of them I'll take it.

My father has only days remaining, which is why I wanted to close the topic and I won't be responding further.

The bottom line is who was the DRIVER at the time of the offence.
Owner/V5 keeper are irrelevant. They can, however, lead to delays in the process that allow for misdirection (hire car is a common one as the hire company gets the NIP) etc. until the DRIVER’S identity is declared.
The NIP is sent to the registered keeper so that the identity of the DRIVER at the time of the offence is declared. YOU MUST REPLY TO THIS NIP LETTER, if you don’t you commit an offence of not replying. You can add additional info to the NIP reply if there are issues about timings of ownership (details of purchase and who from etc). There are time limits to both receive and reply to the NIP. Failure to notify DVLA of change of registered keeper (V5 update and renewal) can also result in a fine.
Just to add, sorry for the circumstances you were under but you might add the details to a covering letter when replying to the NIP. It might mitigate but not a guarantee.

Exactly - my understanding is that 30mph above any limit you can lose your license.

It's a Band C penalty which could be a ban or six points, and also a fine of up to 175% of weekly income.

Burham "didn't know" there was a temporary speed limit. Well then, you shouldn't be driving at all. It's blindingly obvious.

Politicians "never know". Like Johnson. Like many others. Not knowing should never be allowed as an excuse for Politicians. If you "don't know" you're out!
