It was meant very tongue in cheek, hence all the smilies smile

When I got out of intensive care, one of my first visitors brought me in a book on how to repair car bodywork. Maybe our sense of humour is a little darker than most.

I love her comment "I lost the wheels several times but what do you expect it is a 3 wheeler". Tim face on the fast lap is also a picture of panic & a masterclass in back seat driving

Why does Top Gear seem to think that the risky stunts are such a good idea?
Unless the vehicle is suitably prepped then surely a no-go?
Years ago TG had Angela Rippon as a presenter and it was more like a car sales video. It evolved into the “lads gang” format where ever more risky stunts are done.
I don’t know what was being done that led to the accident but would think professional stunt people would be overseeing it. Surely the added risks of being in an open top carwith minimal safety features would lead to restricting the “stunt” ?
Freddie is a great bloke and not exactly an amateur at driving. He has done many risky things in the past and appears to have a high risk tolerance level. Remember the Bungie jump in a car? Mental! I hope he recovers well.

A little more information on the future for Freddie FWIW.

As I suspected the head game will take longer to heal as he had a passenger onboard and it's highly unlikely they did not suffer serious injury.

Yes, she is a Master of understatement and the look on Tiff's face passengering with her just shouts I can't wait to get out of here sick

I would love to have seen her have a go at F1 and shatter some of the fragile male egos that inhabit that area - watching her when she put the buffoon Clarkson firmly in his place on the ring was pure TV/youtube poetry..

This story is a perfect example of how bad and ignorant reporting gets repeated and franchised until it appears to be gospel. Whoever first wrote about a lack of airbags has obviously no idea what car they are reporting on and how ludicrous the statement is. I hope Fred and companion recover soon and that idiots stop trying to fill an information vacuum with nonsense.

Stunts can and do go wrong. The pros setting them up try to mitigate the risks as far as is possible. No guarantees though. Stunt doubles, multi camera angles to enhance the scene.
Who actually has the last word in what goes on?
We have a pro racer in Taffmog who does driving on films if askec and not busy racing. Think the likes o& Graham Hill and others in the making of Grand Prix back in the ‘60’s. Basically standing in for the “cast” who don’t have the skill levels for even basic driving to a standard required to create a realistc scene. Nothing involving deliberate crashes. That falls into the realms of full on top end stunt drivers. The crashes in that film were realistc with full on stunt drivers.
I hope Fred anD the injured companion both recover ok.
