Last weekend my second Xtreme AGM Battery from Batteries Plus, No. CYLA30LXTA, went dead. The first one I bought lasted 11 months and was replaced under warranty. The second one (this one) lasted 13 months so no warranty. At $179 I didn't want to buy another one so I hunted around. I first ordered a Wiede 400 CCA battery on Amazon, without first reading the reviews. When I read the reviews I cancelled my order. What I ended up with was an Interstate No. FAYIX30L. It has 385 CCA, fits exactly like the Xtreme and is only $119, delivered, from Costco. It only has a six month warranty but I have always had good luck with Interstate batteries. By the say, I ordered it on Saturday and it arrived yesterday. I installed it and the Superdry fired right up.

New Speedy Marmots post! We changed our battery too!

It's a short and easy post.

Here it goes! https://www.speedymarmots.com/hangar-works-21-new-lithium-battery/

I am glad you recommended this Battery. Not only did it fit without modification, but the specs are amazing, and my cold engine started instantly where typically with the stock factory battery it used to take a good amount of cranking for the engine to fire up. It's made by Yuasa. The guy at batteries Plus Store said this was a deluxe battery not offered by them. I was able to buy at a local interstate store for $165 in the US.

32 amp hour capacity v totally inadequate 30 amp hour OE - not so amazing when longevity is determined by capacity.

I personally was looking for an increase in power when starting the engine, so coming from the Standard Banner 300 CCA, to the Interstate 500CCA sure seems like a pretty substantial increase to me since CCA is the maximum amperage available at full charge, used to turn over the starter motor, which is the increase I was looking for.
Since AH is the total power available in a battery (the number of hours a battery will last drawing one amp of electricity), and since i am not planning in using the battery to run accessories with the engine off (or using it in a deep cycle manner) it am hoping 32AH should be enough. As far as longevity goes, it's true bigger is better. The old "generally unloved" Banner 30AH lasted 4 years so pretty average I guess. Time will tell in the interstate. She fired up almost instantaniously this morning again, and the Ol' S&S has never done that as long as I have owned her so I am a happy customer so far.....

I can understand your thinking Bluesman but CCA is a laboratory figure and will diminish. My point though was that the main element of battery ageing is gradual but inevitable reduction in capacity mainly due to sulphation of plates. Having the largest capacity (amp hours) that can be accommodated wards off the day when, despite being fully charged to remaining capacity, the battery is only able to give the engine a couple of turns.

I remember being surprised when I learnt of the pitiful 30 Ah capacity of OE Banner in my M3W. Years ago Guzzi 850 T3 V twins were factory fitted with a 32 Ah battery but that only had to turn over pots less than half the size of the S & S.

Why Not using a Supercapacitorbank

I made a super-capacitor bank for 15V mainly to get crank spare-amps for starting our 2000 CC V-twin engine after the first time my brand new battery did not crank anymore, because of probably a rectifier problem.
I was working with a “Battery-protect-65” of Victron and found out that the crank-amps of the little start engine asks over 250A.
That gave me the idea that my small new Varta Battery of 40Ah has only 330A crank power, which means you can get 330A out of the Battery for a very short period like 2 seconds.( CCA 330A is for max 30seconds )
Cranking more than 2 seconds can ruin your start-engine.
So 330 A is not much extra power - compared to the minimum of 250A - but it works especially with my new Iridium spark plugs and when it is not too cold.
I wanted more Crank- amps in case I had a low battery – one of the main issues in TM - and also a device that could start the engine of another car as a kind of brotherly help, and because of this, it should be always ready to use.
The answer is found in using a DIY super-capacitor bank.

What an interesting idea. Are the cables you are using heavy enough to carry 250A? And what is on the small circuit boards on top of the capacitors?
