Hi all,

After years of good service, and bought from a second-hand stall at a canal gathering, my grease gun has reached the end of its life.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement?

I run a 2004 4/4 2-seater with the original set up (apart from hardened king-pins and new dampers).

Many thanks :-)

Julia

Hi Julia, I use a standard Draper gun which has served me well for fifty six odd years, there are several opinions on here and here is a grease gun link for you to muse over.
At the end of the day it's a very basic tool as you will appreciate.

Wanner ones are very good and on ebay but mine at least doesn't take cartridges, being small I use it for long tours.
Otherwise I use a standard draper one. I also have an electric one for when I'm lazy.

I also use a quick coupler to make it easy. Many of them on ebay such as here

I fitted Woff Perfromance remote greasing which helps make it less painful though you still need to clean of the excess & do the spanner check.

I've used this one handed Abnox mINI Wanner grease gun for many years. Click for source.

I bought a secondhand Wanner last year after people on here recommended it.
They do appear to be very good quality and small enough to carry with you if on a longer road trip .

John are the quick couplers good as looked at them a few time.

Get one which takes grease cartridges.

Also consider a flexible hose and a clip on coupler.

Thank everyone - I've now taken a look and apologise for wasting everyone's time! Learning curves are sometimes steep but my relationship with my grease gun, which now know is a Wanner ('cos I've been back to the garage and looked at it!) has been hit and miss for a while.

I'll go and read about how to do things properly, but in my defence, when I bought it for £5 at the canal jumble, the t'internet wasn't as useful as it is now! doh oops

Make sure you vent the thing after filling & store it properly. Directions below stolen from a TR4 Forum

pull out the black handle & lock it, unscrew the grease reservoir from the head. stuff the reservoir with grease...can release the black handle to expel the old grease & help suck in your new grease. Reassemble, release black handle. Pump the gun with bleed valves open, once grease runs clean close the valves....pump grease thru to the tip...thats it. Take the pressure off the grease in storage by pulling & locking the black handle.
