We have two big consumers, one is an electric storage cooker that also heats the kitchen and the other is an EV, otherwise we’d be using less than 50% of that in winter.

It makes you think about everyone supposedly switching to ASHPs and EVs in the next 10 years, household batteries are going to become essential items for flattening out the curve produced by an otherwise huge increase in peak electricity demand that would be beyond our generation infrastructure.

Didn't Tesla mute that EV batteries themselves would flatten the curve during charge periods. This given their storage capacity would likely be significantly greater than that of any fixed household.

Yes they did Richard. EV cars have far higher battery capacity and as I understand it can be set to smart charge at off peak times.

A quote from a survey released today -

“We compared the sale price of homes with different energy-saving features across 13 UK cities with like-for-like properties in the same area that didn’t have them.
The research suggests solar panels are the best green investment for sellers; homes with these were selling at an average of 25% more compared to similar properties in the same area without them.”

Although I find 25% a bit of a stretch, it’s got to be good news and about time that these investments got more recognition in house valuation. wine

Anything that allows you to be independent is a good thing. We are far too reliant upon electricity these days. Take the grid down, and the country can't survive.

So a six month up date on the battries.
We have imported from the grid 592 kWh
We have generated 1654 kWh
Of which the batteries saved 655 kWh
The batteries used 123 kWh in charging to keep at 20% SOC in low sun months.
We have exported 223 kWh so we consumed 1654- 123-223-656 = 652 kWh

The engergy usage is there 652 + 655 = 1307kWh renewable vs592 kWh imported or 69% renewable vs 31% imported.
In May so far we have imported under 1 kWh per day which means the standing charge is higher than the usage.

We are installing about 360 panels on the top of my office in Seminole Florida over the next few weeks. Looking forward to seeing the meter run backwards soon!

Good move you won't regert it. I have a mere 3.9 Kw array i.e. 13 panels I feel out classed.
