Hope everyone is doing well, I've been out of action for a few months building a rabbit run, but I'm back to learning about Morgans and have a quick question.

I clearly need to replace the exhaust system and I was wondering if this is something that a relative novice could handle without too much hassle and just regular tools.

It looks straight forward enough, but I've found out that those are normally the most challenging projects .

I haven't looked for a suitable replacement but I was going to try Moss Motors or New England Morgan Parts, depending on the answers I get here. Is there a car make/model of exhaust that would be compatible with a Morgan 4/4 1974.

Thanks in anticipation, as I always say, I would have given up by now if it was for the support I get here.

Cheers,

Rob

I bought my 1991 plus 4 in the UK and imported back to the US. It has the librand stainless sport exhaust on it and i can highly recommend it. Of course, you need the early variation! I'm actually considering ordering the header for the M16 rover from them. Just have to save up a while.

I'd love to see a photo if you have something you can point me to - thanks

Quite an easy job for a beginner to tackle.

Hardest part would be getting the old system off.

Although I'd recommend seeing if a local exhaust shop could fabricate you a system rather than buy one off the shelf.

For both my 1968 Plus 4 and 1971 4/4 a complete system fabricated in stainless and fitted to the car was much much cheaper than buying one off the shelf.

Think it worked out at 150 quid for the silencer and 70 quid for the tail pipe

Here's a thread about my DIY one. Stainless and cost about £75 in parts. No problems to date.

Please check the clearance between the new exhaust and the rear tyre.
A friend with a 1983 car suffered a blow-out after a new exhaust was fitted by someone "reputable".

With this in mind, Arwyn's suggestion may prove easiest and safest if you are not too confident.

I fitted that to my T16 +4. It made a huge difference on mid range torque

Here is a photo of the Librands manifold in place on my Plus four. Note the heat shield above it.

I had the exhaust from my 1990 4/4 4-seater 1600 CVH replaced by a Librands SS system, including a SS manifold. The silencer is a Plus8 type, only a small part is custom build (between manifold and silencer). Nice sound, no problems with the rear wheel, we had some large travels abroad after this modification.
