Hello: Newbie here so perhaps this has been covered...My 2005 Aero 8 has a loud "snapping" sound when either door is opened. Very metallic. Very annoying. Assume it is the mechanism that holds door open but is there a way to quiet it??

Hi,

Not sure that you will thank me for this but when I had a similar problem with the drivers door on my Aeromax, it turned out to be worn hinge pins. At least that is what I was told by my factory service contact told me was the problem, certainly when they were changed the annoying metallic snapping noise disappeared. However it is apparently not a 5 minute job to change them, requiring the front wing to come off to get at the hinges. I think you probably want to get someone who has plenty of experience of working on these cars to do the work. If you are located anywhere reasonably close to Malvern, I can recommend someone to you. PM me if you are interested.

Hope you manage to get it sorted as you are quite right the noise is very annoying.

Regards

Malcolm

I had the same on my S2. It is not uncommon. Usually caused by water ingress making the frame damp I think.

As you open or close the door there is what feels like a hard crack/snap type noise as it opens/closes.

As mentioned this is an element of the hinge wearing. It happened on my drivers door with it happening on the passengers door. The drivers door gets a lot more use.

The local well experienced dealership tried to fix it but said back to factory as it is structural wood frame work. Factory did it as part of some other work being done.

Just a thought but readily available spray grease aerosols come with a long thin tube spray head extension which may allow grease to hinges even if working blind.

Thanks. Suspect you are correct but as I am in the US this is problematic. I will be at he factory in Malvern for a tour in a week so will ask them if I can find the right person there. Who is your factory service contact? Craig

Hi CSGS, If you are at the Factory go to the parts/service department and ask for Mark Baldwin, he knows everything........and more....

Hi Craig,

Yes Mark Baldwin, who is in charge of their in house servicing and repair setup, is the person you need to talk to. If you slip away from the factory tour and go to the gates at the3 top of the hill, the service/parts desk is in the building to the left and slightly down. Ask for Rob who handles bookings etc and he will connect you with Mark who is both very knowledgeable and very helpful.

Best of luck getting it sorted.
