BHP pretty much the same as standard (don't know what it was before remap;10 years wear and tear on engine etc) however post remap the torque curve is pretty flat with only marginal dipping at 2500 - 3250.

Def going for a short air intake now on the inlet side.

Thanks for posting that. Also await with baited breath what Monty will put out when all mods are complete.
Interestingly with yours, the 145 is, as you say much the same as standard. I also had the Williams remap a few years back and to be honest, did not feel the difference to any great degree when on the road. Maybe, a little more zip above 4k but hard to remember what it was like before.
Be interesting to hear what you think over the next few drives.

So far the remap has done exactly as I hoped. Much more responsive and and over 3500 it really flies. My main concern with the remap, is the tendency to inadvertently exceed the speed limit especially on Motorways.

I wrapped the manifold last night with a reflective header manifold blanket from Funk Motorsport. After a long spirited drive, I was pleasantly surprised that the first time ever that noticeably cold air was blown into the cabin when the fan was switched on and not somewhere between warm and hot as previously. Hopefully with this and a short air intake the "lost" Bhp will be recovered.

For interest and comparison with my Williams remap, wolf sent me this a few years ago. The accompanying comments were:

"The remap for the Duratec helps to improve overall drivability and is very much designed for the road and helps to improve torque and power. It improves est. 8 bhp and about est. 7 lbs ft but it all depends on your engine and what you “starting” power results are and whether you have the leads, plugs and air filter as these make a difference."

Don't forget BHP quoted by the factory is at the crank NOT the back wheels so 145 at the wheels is good circa 20% increase. The drop was probably due to no cold air being forced through the rad and air intake. Get a K&N cone filter.

Good point, I had forgotten to take that into account.

Reading this with interest. I’ve just swapped my aging plus 8 for a more recent plus 4 2.0 Duratec and unexpectedly the only thing I miss is the power/torque.

I’m considering the Wolf remap but couldn’t find any info on the Williams map. I understand the wolf map can be done on a DIY basis which I’d be happy to do but no idea about the Williams method. No intention of jumping in this summer but looking at the available options as an over winter project so I can do things at home. Most things Morgan are 150 miles away!

Cheers

Keith, I think the 145 quoted here is at the engine. the dyno measures it at the wheels and then uses the drag factor to extrapolate the power back to the engine.

This is where it can get difficult to compare power outputs, it can depend on what conversion factors are used as in DIN or SAE for example although I think most use the DIN conversion these days.

My humble opinion. A moderate increase in power is what you can expect from a naturally aspirated engine mapping, nothing more, if all parts remain the same such as the exhaust manifold or the camshafts. On the 4/4 Sigma, surprisingly, more power gain was seen, but only because the standard mapping had reduced the possible power of the engine, especially the torque was less than "by nature". Before I had the mapping done, see below, however, a sport manifold was installed

Williams have recently published their April newsletter in which they offer their remap at a special price of “from £299” if booked along with your annual service, during May.

I had the Williams remap done on my 2012 2.0L duratec 4/4 about a fortnight ago.
I wasn't expecting a huge power increase or any vast difference. I hoped to smooth things out a bit perhaps and just allow the engine to work to its potential.
The factory ecu map is a basic ford sierra map from the late 90's/early2000's so the Williams one must be better than that..........

It does seem to be generally 'better'. It certainly goes well from 3500 rpm up to the redline, but that's not a lot of use in the real world.......

I'm not unhappy with it, for the cost it is certainly value for money.
I appreciate there are many more engine modifications that can be done and endless money spent in the pursuit of personalisation, it's all part of the joy of Morgans.
If going faster is your goal, I'd say the money is better spent buying something like a 3.7 roadster.

Sadly Williams are more than 150 miles and over 4 hours away. Hence the curiosity about the nature of the ‘upgrade’.

I did consider a roadster but concluded that it would likely be quicker than the plus 8 and so more likely to fall foul of the draconian speed restrictions being imposed in glorious North Wales.

I’m not after similar levels of performance I’m just interested to see if a mild increase is viable or not.
