If low emission zones are things that will rarely trouble you, there are a wealth of older cars hitting the secondhand market because of said emission zones, no need to spend lots of money and you can get a replacement for relatively little money.

My next non-Morgan will be an EV. I have looked at the Tesla Model Y, and it is much larger inside than expected. It also has a sizeable front trunk ("frunk") to store stuff out of sight. The acceleration is remarkable and handling is very good. Driver assist technology is great for a driver like me, whose mind wanders on long trips in modern cars. Best of all. it is environmentally responsible.

For me the biggest problem with Teslas is the computer touch-screen which will take time to become comfortable with.

Since that time I have not forgotten the solid build of a V70 and its multiple safety features of paramount importance and would only ever replace like for like. The present one is approaching the magic 200 K miles and purrs along sweetly.

I hit a van and his front was obliterated while mine was damaged but not horrendously. We did think, well, we should just get the same as we both loved that car! Trouble is, mine was knocking on a bit and to get a better spec/lower milage etc we would need to put a decent wedge up with the insurance money.

Highly recommend Mercedes E350D 4Matic. Fast, relatively economic and very commodious.
