In my experience, the mohair hood is much quiter, especially driving faster than 80 km/h. I can compare as I had three Roadster, two with mohair, one with everflex (plastic). On the other hand, for some reason, the everflex looks very sporty. Now I switch from "new" easy up hood to the very traditional 9 stud everflex on my new P4Supersports. It´s a little bit out of ratio, but I like to "work" on the 9 stud, I like it to be not perfect, I like it to be forced to drive more "open" without hood anyway.

Plastic is easier to clean than Mohair and it is a little lighter I think. Having said that, a well kept Mohair hood looks so much better quality (i.m.h.o).

Mine is mohair and is down all the time. Last winter I tested it by putting it up in January to see if it was OK. It was fine. I don't think mohair shrinks with cold. But that's just my experience.

Can shrink slightly with re-proofing though...

On the other hand, the vinyl roof does seem to be quite elastic - and the cracked screen problem seems to occur on Sport models which almost invariably have the vinyl hood. Are the 2 things connected ?

I have an everflex roof on my '88 4 seater. It is starting to show sign of age. I was talking to Kevin Vernon at Tudors a while ago and he suggested that a mohair roof would be quieter at speed as they don't balloon up as much. I would assume that they are not as affected by temp either. One of the problems I have is that if the roof in on the car and the weather turns cold, the vinyl gets so stiff that its pretty difficult to get off - so if a crisp winters day presents, I am stuck with the roof on.

If its off the road for a while or not off the road the cold weather will bugger up your rear window and it will discolour and can crack in future . Best to keep hood up over winter . cheers englandwave
