I might be a proud Irishman but I also served Her Majesty as a senior Army officer. To honour the Coronation I put up some bunting on my wooden fence. Taking it down this morning I found some bastard had ripped and tried to set fire to it. If it had caught fire, could have taken my fence with it. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2023/05/09/burnt-flag.md.jpeg) Would have liked to have caught them at it and explained to them the errors of theirs ways courtesy of my previous training. Fuming.

The number of cases taking the law into your own hands ends up with you getting the police feeling your collar!
But what normally happens your house will be targeted.
We have idiot teenagers spraying cars with red paint at the moment!

I'm sorry to hear that. I think the show of pride in our nation was a great thing. I may not be a Royalist but damaging the Union Flag is disrepectful to you & all of us and especially our veterans. The difference in how the US treats Vets shows we have a long way to go to respect those who risk their lives for the flag & all it stands for.

In many parts of the USA even allowing the Stars and Stripes touch the ground is considered disrespectful.
Burning the flag is a big "No-No"!

Indeed, mindless vandalism :-(
In our building - in a Crescent named after a Queen) our shared stairwell has a number of portraits of Queens - Elizabeths 1 & II, Victoria, Freddy Mercury... and one of Elizabeth II blowing bubble gum.
The only person to have ever grumbled that it's disrespectful is our (really lovely) downstairs neighbour, who's Russian. One day I'll get around to the whole "our monarch may be German, but at least we do still have a monarchy (for better or worse).
