The web states its 17mm for most Garmins upto about 7 inch screen size, after that the ball goes larger. I have just measured our 7 inch Garmin with a Mitutoyo vernier and the ball mount is 17mm .

More news at last.

My client can print these now. Matt black. He's made some samples and the favourite has a 17mm ball which is removeable for possible future additions like maybe a phone holder.
Picures here:

He's not trying to make money, he's doing it as a favour for me. They come out at £20 plus postage.

Sorry, posted now in for sale section.

I have tested during my trip through Italy different variant of cell phone holders for me. Thanks again to Roger for the 3D print file.
I often use, as written before, SP Connect which I also use on my motorcycles. This requires a special shell for the phone.

[Linked Image]

1. Suction cup with ball joints and SP Connect
Holds very stable
Can be adjusted well to the position of the driver
Looks very bulky with and without cell phone
Is very wide on the passenger side

2. Rogers mount with ball joints and SP Connect
Holds very stable
Adjusts to the driver's position, but is too close to my body/face for me
Looks bulky with or without cell phone.

3. Rogers mount with magnet
Does not hold very well, cell phone turns and flies depending on road conditions also times down. Have used a 15 kg magnet that you get off an iron plate only with tools down again.
The position can only be moved in one direction on the dashboard edge. But is optimal for me in the field of view
Looks with and without cell phone very discreet. Is almost not noticeable

4. Rogers mount only with SP Connect
Holds very stable
The position can only be moved in one direction on the dashboard edge. But is optimal for me in the field of view
Looks decent with and without cell phone. I still have to blacken the screw head.

Solution four is the most optimal just for me

I found this magnetic holder for my cell phone. Perhaps not the best solution for winter drivers, as the air vents are partially covered. However, the holder is visually unobtrusive and the display is clearly visible to the driver and passenger.

Question from a Morgan newbie: Is the clock in your vehicle also poorly lit and is the number “6” on the tachometer darker than all the others?

Kind regards
Gerald

I'm the creator of the current 3D printed mount and 45 of you have asked me to make one for you!
Customisation is possible as well as any ideas you may have for other useful gadgets.
Thanks.

Yes and probably. Certainly the clock is unreadable at night, and when I asked MMC about this at the annual service they said "they are all like that", which can be translated as it's a "feature of the car". Given that, and though I've never really noticed any issue with the tachometer, I would say the dimmer number 6 is likely also a "feature".

The clock in my PlusFour is very poor lit indeed. Once I thought it was out while driving through a tunnel on my way to the dealer and asked them to check it. Well, it wasn't broken but just the normal situation. The Smith clock in my 4/4 is very well lit, easy to adjust en very clear to read. Not always is newer better....!!

I recently acquired a Morgan Plus Four, and I tried to conceal a phone mount for it.

I noticed that on the passenger side, under the dashboard, screws held the leather trim in place oldgit

So I used the location of one of these screws to adapt a Quad Lock phone mount, the same brand offered as an option on my old Super 3.

I selected the model theoretically designed to fit into motorcycle fork pivots :

Here's the first result, which I need to improve because at the moment the phone is a little too far back :
