Magnificent work on the MG, congratulations to the saddler craftsman.

Sydney = I love this city, my sister currently lives in Townsville in Queensland, but she lived in the past in the pretty area of Kirribili, on the other side of Sydney Harbor Bridge

Hi Nestor,

Kirribilli is nice but very expensive, if your sister sold there and bought in Townville she can probably retire easily on the difference in house values. I hope you get the chance to visit her often.

My Car has finished at the trimmers and been trucked back to the MG workshop last week.

I visited it today and it is looking very nice. Here are some interior shots.

They are preparing the car ready to start in a couple of weeks, they were bleeding the brakes while I was there, the radio aerial is mounted onto a bracket under the rear bumper and goes nearly the whole length of the bumper, they said it works very well there and you can't see it. That is great as I don't want a visible antenna.

I had bought a chrome oil filler cap and dip stick top which they fitted while I was there, they certainly look nice compare to the plastic ones. They also have fitted the painted rocker cover which helps nicely finish off the engine bay. These are the parts I bought https://mx5mania.com.au/collections...tick-handle-nc-nd?variant=29209489899554 and https://mx5mania.com.au/collections/dress-up/products/oil-filler-cap-chrome-satin-nc-nd-2015

Yes, I can't wait. There is a local public holiday on the 29th of May when I live but not where the workshop is. The workshop owner said the car will be ready to start before then, so they plan to leave the car for me and my son to drive down on the 29th and I can push the button to start it. He said assuming that all goes well they will spend a couple of weeks driving and testing it, then get the engineer to check and sign it off, take the paper work to the government inspection station and get it all signed off. So hopefully I could have it home and driving it mid to late June.

Yesterday I was I given another years extension at work to sign, from July 2023 to June 2024. I talked to dad about it while driving and he feels I have worked long enough, have enough money and it is time to retire and enjoy the car. He is right and I am very tempted to not sign up for another year.

That car looks fabulous.
Imminent completion is a sign that you should not be tied to work for another year.
If you can afford to retire properly, go for it.
You won't regret it.

I had an eventful but reasonably pleasant weekend. We went down to Hobart as an Uncle has Leukaemia and we have no idea how much longer he will be with us. He was very chuffed to know we spent the time and money to travel down. He is not good but feels he is going to last until Christmas. I really hope so but he has certainly got older looking and slower since last Christmas.

Before leaving on Thursday I sent an email saying to my boss I don't want to work much longer and suggested only working a few months next financial to keep my earnings and therefore tax down, While down there I had a call from my boss asking if I would consider working one day a week which while not 100% retired would give me a lot of time to enjoy the car and do other things. I will have to discuss it with him on Monday but it does sound reasonable.

I checked e-mails while in Hobart and happy to see the Trimmer has dropped off the final last few things to the workshop.

  • A tool box for the boot that contains the hammer for the wheels plus a can of sealant to use in an emergency, no spare wheel,
  • The steering wheel trimmed in the same leather as the dash parts to 100% match.
  • A guitar strap with MG logo to matching the seats, I will use it with the guitar that matches the car.

I will be going down again in about a week and the car should be very close to finished by then.

Wow!

All parts look very nice.

That must be a very expensive Restauration...

Congratulation and enjoy the time you will now have!
