I have spent quite a bit of time correcting previous work or lack thereof performed on the 2005 Roadster w/3L Duratec engine I purchased. One of the discoveries was a cross threaded oil plug. I need to know the size of the bolt used as the oil pan plug so we can order a kit to fix the problem. Thank you.

Hi 2late,

I’m loathe to suggest anything as my car is a 1.8 but here’s some info with piccies……..

The sump plug is M12 x 1.75 x 20mm with a 22mm diameter collar. This sits on a machined indent surface of the sump, which is approx. 24mm wide. But, from the centre of the sump plug hole to the bottom of the machined surface (and bottom of the sump) is only 10mm.

The sump plug washer is a bonded / dowty washer to suit.

Best of luck

Thanks, SALMO

I'm not articulate enough to be a frequent poster but would like to take this opportunity to thank not only SALMO but all of you for so much information that is helpful to a new to the fold Morgan owner.

Hi 2late,

Looking at my records, when I was trying to locate my plug MMC suggested I use a plug they used on the Duratec V6……..Ford number (USA) 9L8Z-6730~A.

Goes without saying, it didn’t fit my car!

Google the number and have a look, it may be what your looking for.

Probably safer to just remove the existing plug and measure the tread & length directly off that

Interesting, one of my early cars, a Cittoën 2CV, with the large
602 ccm engine had both a magnetic oil plug and an oil cooler fitted as standard. laugh

Not a performance car, but in the Norwegian mountains it had to be driven at full performance.
