Remove the negative lead from the battery, wait 30 secs and reconnect and see if the fault remains. Removing the negative lead will re-set the computer and may cure the problem. If not, I would guess that the problem is sensor related.
I have successfully used this trick when the car refused to start in heavy rain and it is definitely worth a try as it is very quick and easy to do and there is no downside to trying it.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

While I do not have a CX, I have had several cars with an in-car oil level check. I found that having the car running never showed the oil level. As mentioned before the engine must be at operating temperature, and for my car at least, I had to turn off the engine, wait a few mins and then turn on the accessory power to check. It would never tell me the level with the engine running.

You mentioned that it's showing 5/4 for oil level. Is there a chance it's been overfilled and the computer doesn't know what to do with that? Did you add oil since getting the car?

I did a quick google search for the BMW Z4 owners manual as I believe much of the electronics is shared. It states the car must be driven for at least 30 mins before you can check the oil level.

Hope this helps,

P

Thanks Perry. I have had all the procedures by this time. 5/4 should be normal is stressed by the dealer when delivering the brand-new car....! So 5/4 is in this case equal to 4/4, typically Morgan!🤷‍♂️😉

thumbs
Almost all electronic sensor (non dipstick) types will not give a reading with the engine running as so much of the oil is in circulation that you would get a fault of low sump level

Remember 'normal' engines with dipsticks need you to leave the oil to have drained into the sump to get a correct reading, on level ground too
