Purely out of interest does the ECU shut down the engine on a low oil pressure reading in these new generation cars ?

Dunno, probably just throw a dash warning, otherwise the roads would be littered with breakdowns, as most of the numpties driving tintops today NEVER check anything or even lift the bonnet

Exactly, got to say I have never got use to my Ford not having a temperature or oil pressure gauge it still seems all wrong to me and tbh I don't think I would cope with the CX lack of proper instrumentation but reliant on software and all that brings with it.

The good ladies GTI still has sensible dashboard instrumentation so we'll be hanging onto that one.

Peters Aero based car demonstrated what an absolute nightmare the software reliant electronics can be.

I must admit I have never put any oil into our Mini Cooper D in close to 50,000 miles and still have the unopened litre of 0W30 in the boot as it's never asked for top up, confirmed by dipstick. It has had scheduled services though but only four so far from near new.

I have a reading!!!!!!!! Today, after giving her a good wash, I had I drive in the hills nearby, and back home I tried again, pushing the BC button while the round was turning, and that gave me the hourglass turning. I already did try that while the engine as cold with no result. But now, after a good spin, the hourglass kept turning for about 2 minutes, and then the reading came! Hallelujah, maybe, this was the secret. I will check it the forthcoming days, but I think I can cancel the appointment with the dealer on Wednesday, as that means 4 hours of driving for me. I'll let them know next Monday. I think it's not bad reading out the system, but they can do that another time! I'm glad at this moment and my belief in Morgan is more or less restored! A friend of men (also Morganeer) suggested that maybe it has to do something with the moonphase, as it's a Morgan..... grin2 happy3

My trad Plus8 has Gems management. There are two oil pressure sensors. One for the dash gauge, the other linked to the ecu. If that ecu one detects low pressure then it cuts the engine to protect it.
The gauge one failed on mine causing variable gauge readings. No effect on engine cut out but was a bit worrying at first. I realised the ecu one was working so changed the faulty one asap. Straight forward screw in with two wires. Been good since.
Last year the sump gasket was changed as it showed signs of weeping. Spotted one drip on the cardboard I put under the car ( leak detector system!).
As for ecu/computer glitches, I tend to let the system boot up fully before starting. Let it do its normal system start checks. On the Kia ( 1 year old) the display screen went odd a few weeks ago. Not an issue and it returned to normal after switching off/on. Basically a simple reboot as you can do with any pc/tablet/smartphone. It’s also worth checking wiring connectors for good fit.

The car has been in and out of the garage quite a few times Phill. Also managed to get an oil reading after about 15mins running at idle but that could have been my fault, the handbook says from low put 1litre of oil in. I have never topped up a litre of oil in my life my daughters cars being an exception to the rule. I have never had to top up any of my Mogs between services but will keep an eye on this its a bit alien not having a dip stick.

If you mean me and my PlusFour, well, I wasn't concerned, so I kept driving, next weekend a Morgan tour in the Limburg Hills and next week Denmark, heading to The Morgan Garage Museum opening in Samsø! drive happy3
