I watched this marketing film from another sports car maker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0VtYXmLzF0It made me wonder.... MMC puts a lot of emphasis on the crafted, hand made image, but really they assemble bits they designed but made by others and then hand trim and finish: Bentley does much the same, not forgetting that the W12 is manufactured in the UK as well. Porsche seems to be more like MMC than many would think, yes they design the cars, but they also assemble the bodies, design and build the engines on the same site, offer the same level of trim and finish options as Morgan, but unlike the Morgan Plus Four the price starts at £53,000 and goes up to £123,000. The Morgan Plus Four starts at £70,104 and goes up to the same sort of figure as the Porsche Boxster. I understand that a basic PlusFour is available almost ex stock, a Boxster is 12 months delivery. Used Plus Fours seem to be easily available, used Boxsters are less easy to find. Porsche has 46 UK Porsche Centres, Morgan has a lot fewer. Both have a large support of aftermarket supporters and independents but it does seem that the Porsche Dealer Network is made up of well financed substantial companies, the local one is part of Inchcape plc. It seems to me that MMC needs to cut £15,000 from the base price and strengthen the dealer network. Do that and I may return, the PlusFour is a great car, but not at £90k for a well optioned one. Sorry Italinvest, it just doesn't add up.

When comparing Porsche to Morgan, the unit number effect is always forgotten. Porsche builds 300,000 cars per year ... Morgan just 1,000. Porsche can negotiate with its suppliers in a completely different way compared to MMC.

Have fun with your Porsche, keep sympathy with Morgan, we both love our cars! And we had nice times together with Thrill on the Hill! Greetings from the Netherlands, Ruut

Yes I agree Clemens, it's not a direct comparison.

I feel duty bound to chime in on your comment about Bentley. Yes, like MMC and Porsche, suppliers are used for some components. However, you would be amazed on just how much, or better yet how little it not hand crafted into the car. Dare I say much more hand-built than Morgan and Porsche combined! You would be amazed to find out by the way that even Porsche has some body parts brought in painted and then build into the car in final assembly, some of the interior etc. Minor bits but still. Truth be told, even a Honda Civic is for the most part hand built. Robots can't stitch seats, apply the covers etc. Nor do they feed the wiring, assemble the dash nor build engines. Just saying... I somewhat see your reasoning but having gone through ordering my Morgan and spec'ing two 718's (GTS and Spyder), the cars sever two widely different purposes IMHO. Price wise it is a question many would ask, why get A when I can have B.

While Peter may have made a number of technical and factual comparisons he seems to ignore the emotional factors.
I would bet that driving a Porsche of any genre will not bring anything like the response from the general public that you experience when driving a Morgan. When I think of the number of occasions that we have been waved at, photographed, had people wanting to be photographed next to the car, or just passers by who want to stop and chat (even when we don't have a common language) or being waved out of a junction I remember that owning a Morgan is special.
I recall on one occasion being mobbed by a coachload of Japanese tourists at a motoway services in France I feel pretty sure that nothing else compares with the Morgan experience.
However - each to their own. I'm sure Peter will enjoy his Porsche.

John I can second all. If the question is wether a Morgan is worth the money I am not sure. I think it is better not to repeat my comments about the quality of Morgans. Let me say that not every handmade car is a masterpiece... I perhaps I am a little bit biased because I drive japanese bikes and sell parts for this bikes since more than 35 years... So is my 4/4 worth the money? YES! You get what you pay for...in my case all what John wrote! But if you don't want to pay a lot of money for all John discribed - a Morgan is not worth the money. I for myself have not so deep pockets for a new Morgan. And no, a new Morgan isn't worth the money *** FOR ME!*** Each for his own!

The point I was trying to make is that Morgan seek to be seen in the same light as Porsche, and other such cars. But in the modern world to offer a modern technologically sophisticated car requires resources that MMC does not have.
I'd be very tempted by an "As New" Plus 4 with SSL suspension, re manufactured by Aero Racing, in a way that I'm not by a new 2023 PlusFour. I paid £50,000 for my Boxster and would have happily paid that for such a restored Plus 4. I would not pay almost 2X that for a 2023 PlusFour.
My 718 Boxster is one of the last generation of "basic" ICE cars, where the computers support the car and driver. I expect that the next generation of EV Porsche will be run by the computers and I have no interest in that sort of world. A "new" 2008 Plus 4 has virtually no computer support, which is why I'd be interested. I'm not a "Spanner Juggler", though I have massive admiration for him and the others who can do that work. I just want a car that works, when I ask it to.
Porsche, as part of VAG, know where they want to be, Morgan knows where it wants to be. Which is more likely to be still here in 10 years? It is hard to say.

For me it’s the driving experience that counts. I’ve had 5 Porsches and 3 Morgans plus a big Healey and many MGs along the way. My current Plus 4 Duratec is the most fun car I’ve ever owned. It’s been as far South as Monaco and as far North as Berwick upon Tweed. Maybe it’s an age thing (I’m in my seventies) but I wouldn’t swop it for anything else. Just my view, we’re all different. Bob.
