Alternatively, perhaps one then has the right to complain about all policies smile

I wonder how long it is since a majority of posters on here voted 'for' somebody rather than 'against the others'? ... been a while for me!

K, it will have been just post 1978 when Labour were spiralling us into oblivion (seems familiar) and the Donkey Jacketed Foot appeared at the Cenotaph and I voted for the Tories more out of desperation than anything else.

A close call though to call it a choice.

The only politician I was going to vote for to put him in power was the late John Smith is the real answer I guess, our last Statesman tbh.
His daughter doing a good job reporting out in Cowboy Country as well at present.

Trouble with not voting is that it allows high publicity off the wall minorities, to get voted in. Unfortunately that often means you wake up one morning to find that all voting is now not allowed/fiddled & you are under the equivalent to the Nazis.

So does proportional representation - NI is a case in point.

I've long argued that just 2 changes are needed.
1. Mandatory voting with a £250.00 fine for not voting.
2. A space on the paper "None of the above". If None of the above won then all those on the ballot paper would be blocked from standing for public office for 5 years.

Well said

Peter J. This sounds to me like a very good idea indeed. wine

This was a local election. Our incumbent Tory counsellor knocked on our door and took time to explain the local issues and his personal take on them. It aligned with our views and he consequently gained our vote. No other party even delivered a leaflet.

What the Tory party get up to in Westminster is a separate matter and perhaps best aired on the Soap Box.

Sadly democracy has spiralled down to the point where the silent majority are dictated to by a seemingly endless collection of minority self interest groups.

I struggle to find any box to tick on a ballot paper as despite most having some policies that I’d like to support they also promote some cockeyed ideas that are diametrically opposite to my personal best interests.

I would like to have the option to tick ‘non of the above’
