Hi everyone

New here - hoping other people have experienced this and it's something innocent - 2021 Plus Four manual gearbox - basically off the road last year (for you know what....) so still only has 1600 miles on the clock. I've noticed under hard driving a burning smell - like the smell of a clutch or something like that - definitely not the smell of fuel

I'm hoping it's just oils etc burning off as the car is effectively still new.....

Has anyone else noticed any strong odours (from the car!) when they've been in the running in phase? There's no clutch slip, braking issues, vibrations, odd noises etc - so nothing that suggests anything is rubbing where it shouldn't be.

Any thoughts very welcome!
Thanks
Neil

Just a thought that if you have the solid top in situ could it be harbouring the new standard running in smells ?

If you have the lid off ignore the comment.

Hi Neil, just a generic thought. Could it be handbrake badly adjusted and binding? If you have access to thermal imaging camera it could be helpful.

I had such a burnt smell on my Roadster Series 1 when I gave it full throttle. It can be another reason with you. In my case it was the catalytic converter as the workshop told me.

I do not have a CX but I have had this in a few new cars. I believe it's lubricants, oils etc burning off which can take a bit to sort itself out and present themselves when temps get high enough.

That's what I'm hoping (fingers crossed)

There doesn't seem to be any other indicators of something else at fault...

From my experience and other Plus Six owners it will be the Catalytic converter. When you are really pushing the car on the motorway going uphill you can certainly smell it. One of our more "racy" owners complained about the smell from Day One!
