Given the cost of a double-decker bus and the potential danger produced by an irresponsible driver, it would at least be worthwhile to have a warning device indicating that the height is too low even if my post is not funny in this thread.

A very good point Heinz as we have several of these incidents in the UK during the course of a year.

Quote "Data by Network Rail suggests that there were 1,714 railway bridge strikes across the country in the 2019/20 financial year." Some of these will be trucks of course.

They carried out some trials in 2021 it seems..

DaveW's touring experiences in another post made me smile at this ... spotted touring in Scotland.

The success of the NC500 has been a double-edged sword for locals on the route.

Daughter lives near Ely which has one of the most struck bridges in the Country. The number of signs/warnings that is on the approach to the bridge makes me think that whatever is done some people will still try to go through.

Would it be difficult to use the modern radar/lidar sensors being used in cars for automated cruise control to trigger some electrical engineering in the bus?

It detects the height and incoming argument and does the red light/lift off the gas/brace siren. It could all be placed in a little bulge in the front grill and wired up easily.

Sounds like a job for a small business and some IPR, spot me 5% if you do it. You might even get sponsorship from National Rail.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

All buses and any other vehicle that has and open back that can carry load has to have by law a warning notice in the cab with the actual height of the vehicle. All bridges have their height displayed clearly on the face except for Motorways where all bridges are a standard height 16'.6" 5.03 mtrs. . So always the drivers fault.

My motorhome sat-nav always warned me of any upcoming hazards such as low bridges. It also knew the dimensions of the motorhome.
