Hi folks Thanks for all the replies on the what car thread. I have perused the selections and I am still not 'with car' as they say So looking at older cars with higher millage. Im wondering if the warranty packages available are worth getting, or not worth the paper they are written on? Does anyone have experiences with these ? If I buy a used car they are generally coming with a 3 month limited warranty. One car I liked from a dealer only came with one month and guess what, they tried the hard sell on a warranty package. I'm losing the will to live at the moment looking for cars. At this rate I will be going to work in the Mog !

I had an aftermarket warranty on a supercharged Jag.
The supercharger failed and required renewal which was a big job. Warranty covered the lot - no quibbles. Unfortunately I can't recall the company, which isn't much help to you.
The bottom line being, there are good warranties out there.

Had experience both good and bad on them.
I think of them in two groups - manufacturer ones for their dealers to add and third party aftermarket ones, a lot trickier.
If someone offers a third party warranty I ask the following 1. Anything included is often pants, they can make them almost free by reducing the terms that are included. How many claims are included (some are one time and die) What is the maximum total payout across multiple claims What is the max payout per claim Does it include parts and labour Do you have to make any contribution (can reduce price a lot) Do you have to use their approved garages
To be fair to the upsell I suspect you would have ended up with a better product than the included ones which are often £1000 max, co-pay and cost them about £30
2. Making the claim This is a fine art as they will ask you questions which will often lead to "then you should have had it looked at by a garage before it blew up we are not covering that a a result". With the S2 the Air/Con failed in the middle of a hot traffic jam. It was under one of those warranties. The very well known Morgan dealer that I took the car to said they would deal with the warranty for me as they knew what they were doing. So they dropped a plunky in the conversation and I got a bill for £3000 with nothing from them. Never went back to that dealer.
The cheaper the policy the less likely the claim, like everything.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Bonsie, surprisingly ( not least to me !!) , the AA extended warranty in which you list the car(s) you own/want covered has worked quite well for me .Details here - https://www.theaa.com/cars/warranty...ZmQ2M4LDZDPS2WqPmTPJwrgJsMoaAnvPEALw_wcBIf a problem occurs and the AA can't fix it the garage provides an overview of the work and estimated costs.AA then assess whether they will cover the work (or not) and garage gets the go ahead. There are upper limits on costs and some things aren't covered, but has proved worthwhile overall...... HTH , James

Slightly of topic, I have a new puppy. Springer Spaniel, quotes for pet ins = £500 per year with £170 excess. I don't think so, I am putting the equivalent monthly amount into a dormant account by SO. Kicked it off with 2K thats been in the account forever. Time will tell.

IMHO if you are going used and want a warranty, go for a CPO - certified pre-owned. The warranty is backed by the manufacture and treated almost as well as a new car warranty. Many key brands have CPO on cars up to 7 years old.
