Hi all,
Simple question (if you know the answer) but I'm not sure.
2009 Roadster
2 big red power cables from the battery. 1 has an 80 amp inline fuse close to the battery. The other disappears into the convoluted plastic protection tube.
I am assuming one goes directly to the starter motor and the other powers everything else.
Is that correct and which one uses the 80 amp fuse?
I'm going cross eyed staring at the wiring diagrams but can't see the battery connections.

The fused one has to be the general supply to the fuse box, as that size fuse would never support starter current which on a V6 could be 200 amps or so. Starters are not usually fused anyway.
If you have a multimeter, it’s easy to prove of course by pulling the fuse and testing the connection on the starter.

The starter motor feed is direct from the battery and is the norm as Doug suggests. The starter motor current would otherwise blow the 80 amp fuse. The other red cable, fused near the battery goes to a positive distribution stud behind the dash. From there brown cables feed an eight way high current fuse box. Eight permanently live fused brown/red cables feed out. It's all shown on the wiring schematic Bob you just need to be patient with your scanning
