A mix drive today motorway a bit of city stop start toured the Gower peninsula on narrow roads and an A road drive home, 38 mpg which I think is excellent but that tank gauge needs to be run to the end of the red line at some point for future peace of mind.

Not very scientific I know but I drove the plus six till the needle went off the gauge completely after about 10 mlns got an engine hiccup pulled over and put 4 litres in and filled up about 3miles away, took 38 litres plus the 4 which is 42litres. I didn't fancy running it dry as the previous owner had it parked up for a year . So I think there might have been 4 litres left in the tank at empty. So a fill up at 300miles is achievable I think.

Hi aerotaff, very interesting result and useful to know there’s probably 42 litres of usable fuel. Was this achieved mostly in automatic or was it a combination of both auto and manual ?
I wonder how much fuel it would take if you just let the needle drop to empty ?, at least that would give a good indication regardless of how the car is driven.

Hi Nick, even if you have a very heavy right foot 250 mile's is easily achievable I would have thought. I personally don't intend using the paddles or the sport mode there's plenty for me in Auto,early days I know can't see me getting less than 35mpg.The same mileage I used to get in the plus4 duratec. What i have noticed is there is a lot more air being sucked in the back of the car around the neck area when your marching on a bit. What we all tend to forget of course we will get slightly more with the hood up, but that ain't never going to happen....

Maybe it’s just a matter of characterising the fuel gauge, but for the moment I’ll take your advice and fill up every 250 miles.
Out of interest did you happen to notice where the needle was positioned after you put the 4 litres in ?.

I’ve also found a lot of air and debris being sucked in behind my neck and windscreen along with fumes. I didn’t notice this with my Roadster, perhaps not having a spare wheel on the back has something to do with this.

I think it was a third up the red, but what I have noticed when filled up its way past the full mark and just driven 40 miles this evening and the needle hasn't moved. Morgan are not keen on gauges or roofs. The moral of the story is don't look at your gauges or go out in the rain .... Ha

This summer (May...) we've been driving the Roadster with the hood cover in place, which looks very streamlined but alters the airflow and seems to increase the buffeting. Odd.
And we always us the odometer method and re-fuel at 250 miles-ish.
